**The Chief Steward** is responsible for leading and managing the stewarding team to ensure the cleanliness, sanitation, and smooth operation of all food service and kitchen areas in an industrial catering environment. This role ensures compliance with hygiene standards, efficient handling of kitchenware and equipment, and supports overall catering operations to maintain high service quality.
**General/Role Overview**:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the stewarding team to ensure timely cleaning and sanitization of kitchen utensils, equipment, and dining areas.
- Develop and implement cleaning schedules, procedures, and standards in compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations (e.g., HACCP).
- Manage inventory and proper storage of kitchenware, cleaning supplies, and chemicals.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate stewarding staff performance to maintain high productivity and adherence to safety protocols.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness in all back-of-house areas including kitchens, storage rooms, and waste disposal zones.
- Collaborate with kitchen and catering teams to support smooth food preparation and service operations.
- Ensure proper waste management and recycling practices are followed.
- Report maintenance issues related to stewarding equipment and coordinate repairs or replacements.
- Enforce health and safety policies to minimize risks and maintain a safe working environment.
- Assist in budgeting and cost control related to stewarding supplies and labour.
