Role Overview

We have multiple Substation Design roles across various Power Consulting and Automation companies here in Kuala Lumpur/Selangor.

The
HV Substation Design (Engineer, Lead, Principal, Manager)
will lead the design coordination and technical delivery of high-voltage substation systems for large-scale projects. This individual will act as the primary subject matter expert on substation design, ensuring that all electrical design works meet technical, regulatory, and client requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in HV systems and substations, gained from engineering consultancy, utilities, or EPC environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the overall design process for
  HV substations
  (typically 132kV and above), ensuring designs comply with client specifications, industry standards, and local authority requirements.
• Oversee and coordinate with design consultants, contractors, and internal project teams during design, review, and execution phases.
• Provide technical guidance on HV electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, cabling, earthing, and control schemes.
• Review and validate design documentation, drawings, and calculations to ensure quality, safety, and constructability.
• Liaise with utility providers, regulatory authorities, and other relevant stakeholders for design approvals and connection agreements.
• Support tender evaluations, technical clarifications, and contractor selection related to HV works.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams (MEP, civil, structural) to ensure seamless integration of HV systems into overall project design.
• Manage project schedules, risks, and design deliverables, ensuring alignment with client objectives and delivery timelines.
• Stay updated on applicable codes, standards, and best practices related to substation design and high-voltage infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in
  HV substation design
  , ideally within engineering consultancies, utilities, or EPC firms.
• Proven track record in managing or reviewing designs for
  high-voltage substations
  (132kV and above).
• Strong understanding of electrical protection systems, grid connections, and power distribution networks.
• Excellent technical report writing, design review, and coordination skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with clients, consultants, and contractors.
• Professional Engineer (Ir/PE) status or eligibility will be an advantage.
