About the role

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Commis to join our team at ONE IFC HOTEL SDN BHD' in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. As a Commis, you will play a vital role in preparing and executing exceptional culinary dishes in our dynamic kitchen environment. This is a full-time position with opportunities for career growth and development.

What you'll be doing

  • Co-ordinate the activities with kitchen helpers, engaged in preparing and cooking food, to ensure an efficient, profitable and smooth food service at all times.
  • Checks daily that there is no wastage in storerooms, refrigerators and freezers.
  • Minimizes spoilage, unless food surplus and portion control.
  • Checks the quality and quantity of food received from the markets and stores.
  • Is always looking for cost saving and environmental ideas.
  • Assists in opening the outlet at an acceptable food and employees' level.
  • Maximizes personal productivity, in order to minimize payroll costs.
  • Ensures that all food is prepared and served according to the standards set by the Chef de Cuisine or Sous Chef.
  • Does cooking and presentation of food.
  • Ensures standard recipes are used, food is presented according to pictures.
  • Insures that all food items (fried, broiled, sautéed, etc.) are prepared uniformly and that all units are clean and in working condition at all times. Checks all areas assigned in regard to sanitation and hygiene consistently and keeps always in a clean condition.
  • Ensures handling of knives is safe, and condition, as per approved standards.
  • Is responsible in making the flow of information work, all the way to the helper's level.

  • Maintains good relationship with all colleagues.
  • Maximizes personal and team members' productivity and morale, whilst constantly maintaining discipline, following hotel and local legislation.
  • Motivates all employees through professionalism, organizational skills and team spirit to perform their duties.

EDUCATION

  • Certificate or Diploma in Hotel Management, Food & Beverage, or related field
  • WORK EXPERIENCE
  • At least 2 years as Commis or Kitchen Helper

SKILLS

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with customers, colleagues, and third parties, ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen and food preparation processes.
  • Relevant certification such as a Culinary Certification and Food Handler Permit as required by local regulatory authorities.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization and training abilities.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability to communicate well in English.
  • Knowledge of written and verbal Cantonese is an added advantage.
  • Aware and adhering to HACCP principles and practices relevant to food safety, hygiene, cleanliness, health standards, and proper storage, as applicable to the work area.
