Job descriptions:-

  • Conduct on-site surveys to measure distances, angles, elevations, and contours of the land.
  • Utilize specialized equipment such as GPS, robotic total stations, and laser scanners to collect accurate field data.
  • Perform various types of surveys, including boundary, topographic, construction staking, and mortgage location surveys.
  • Place monuments or markers to delineate property corners and boundaries.
  • Operate and maintain surveying equipment, ensuring proper calibration and safety standards.
  • Research legal documents, survey records, historical maps, and land titles to clarify property boundaries and ownership information.
  • Verify the accuracy of field data and perform complex mathematical calculations to confirm measurements.
  • Analyze data using software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and other specialized programs.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed sketches, maps, and reports of survey results and legal descriptions of property boundaries.
  • Draft plats (maps) and other drawings based on field observations and calculations.
  • Present findings and reports to clients, project managers, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, construction crews, and town planners to ensure survey data is accurately integrated into project designs.

  • Ensure all survey activities comply with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on land problems and boundary disputes.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education and Certification:

  • A Bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related field is often required.

  • Professional licensure as a Land Surveyor (PLS or RLS), which typically involves experience and passing relevant examinations, is often a requirement for senior or management roles.
  • Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in using modern surveying instruments (GPS, total stations, levels).

  • Experience with surveying and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center).
  • Strong mathematical skills, including trigonometry and analytical abilities.
  • Knowledge of boundary laws, regulations, and legal descriptions.
  • Soft Skills and Physical Requirements:

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for reports and client interactions.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and challenging terrain.
