Position: Facilities & Services Technician (Plumber)

JOB SUMMARY

The Facilities & Services Technician is primarily responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems across the College campus. This includes ensuring proper water flow, drainage, and sanitation systems for all facilities.

In addition to plumbing, the role supports minor electrical works, general maintenance, and audio-visual (AV) system operations. The Technician must ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant regulations, contributing to the smooth running of a fully residential A-Level college.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Plumbing and Water System Maintenance

• Perform installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems including pipes, fittings, pumps, tanks, valves, and sanitary fixtures.
• Troubleshoot and resolve plumbing issues such as leaks, clogs, and pressure irregularities.
• Monitor water supply systems and ensure continuous operation for boarding houses, academic buildings, and staff quarters.
• Maintain proper records of plumbing works, materials used, and service intervals.
• Ensure all plumbing work adheres to safety and building standards.

B. Electrical Maintenance and Safety

• Carry out routine checks, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on electrical wiring, lighting, distribution boards, and related installations.
• Ensure compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission) regulations and internal safety procedures.
• Maintain electrical logbooks, service reports, and compliance documentation.

C. General Maintenance and Support

• Assist in mechanical, carpentry, maintenance work within the premises, including repairs of structures, furniture, and facilities and other general maintenance tasks when required.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
• Support campus upkeep to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and presentable.

D. Audio-Visual (AV) System Support

• Operate and maintain AV and sound systems in the Great Hall and other college venues.
• Set up and test equipment such as microphones, mixers, amplifiers, and projectors for events.
• Provide technical assistance during assemblies, talks, and official ceremonies.

E. Preventive and Scheduled Maintenance

• Conduct preventive maintenance on plumbing, electrical, and AV systems to minimise downtime.
• Participate in campus-wide maintenance schedules and improvement projects.

F. Safety and Compliance

• Follow all safety policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to maintenance work.
• Support testing of emergency systems including alarms and lighting.
• Report and escalate safety issues or major defects to the Head of Department.

G. Record Keeping and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, spare parts usage, and inspection results.
• Provide updates on completed and pending tasks to the Head of Department.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

1. Experience: Minimum 2 years' experience in plumbing or facility maintenance; experience in an educational or residential institution is an advantage.

3. Strong plumbing knowledge including water systems, pumps, and sanitary fittings.

4. Basic electrical troubleshooting and maintenance skills.
5. Familiarity with AV systems (mixers, amplifiers, and projectors).
6. Ability to interpret plumbing and electrical schematics.
7. Attributes: Responsible, safety-conscious, reliable, and hands-on. Able to work flexible hours, including weekends for college events.
8. Language: Proficient in Bahasa Malaysia; basic English understanding is an advantage.
9. Other Requirement: Must be willing to be on standby duty as scheduled.
