Perioperative Educator

Job Responsibilities

• Orientates new staff allocated to the Operating Theatre.
• Teaches, monitors and guides all levels of nursing staff in the Operating Theatre.
• Scrubs on-site and teaches staff in surgical procedures as and when required.
• Guides staff in assessing problems and difficulties encountered in the operative procedures. Corrects them as and when the need arises.
• Identifies any safety hazards and take immediate corrective actions.
• Familiarize and be able to operate the various equipment used for operative procedures.
• Guides and supervises staff in positioning of patients for the different types of procedures.
• Assesses the level of competency and proficiency of the staff together with the Nurse Manager.
• Works as a member of the operating team.
• Maintains harmonious and effective relationship within the unit and with all levels of staff.
• Participates in quality improvement activities.
• Identifies the education needs of staff in the unit with the Nurse Manager and arranges for relevant sessions of training to be conducted.
• Ensures the maintenance of principles of aseptic techniques and infection control practices in the operating theatres.
• Documents and keeps records of clinical performance of staffs.
• Continually seek new ways to improve and upgrade the competency levels of the staff in consultation with the Nurse Manager.
• Undertakes other assigned duties as delegated by the Nurse Manager.

Job Requirements

• Diploma in Nursing. Degree in nursing is an added advantage.
• State registered nurse with at least five (5) years clinical experience in the Operating Theatre.
• Certificate in Perioperative Nursing or related discipline.
• Have hands on experience in major operative procedures.
• Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Able to teach, guide and motivate nurses in clinical setting.
