Summary:

To provide technical services as a Senior Geologist for I+E projects within SEA & Pacific.

Job Description

  • Provide office and on-site technical support and lead as required, related to geological/geotechnical works and mapping.
  • Site visit, geological surface mapping, and collecting relevant geological/geotechnical information from the site.
  • Coordinating with the geotechnical site investigation at the site and any other needful direction required related to all technical works at the site.
  • Technical site supervision and technical management of geotechnical site investigation and drilling campaigns, including logging of core samples, direction of in-situ testing, sampling, and geophysical surveys etc.
  • Preparation of daily progress report while at site supervision regarding SI progress, actual geological conditions encountered, issues of concern and changes to the SI program etc.
  • Preparation of site visit report, geotechnical factual report, field mapping report, Geotechnical Interpretative Report and other reports as required.
  • Tunnel face mapping at the site as required and liaising with geotechnical and tunnel engineers for works related to supervision of tunnel excavation and installation of support system.
  • Provide input to ongoing design works, feasibility studies and design works.
  • Provide input to the geological-geotechnical project risks register.
  • Prepare and maintain geological reports, records, field notes and field records, files, sketches and drawings in a tidy and orderly manner.
  • Review designs and drawings prepared by the Contractor.
  • Provision of OHS issues related to Geotechnical Works and reporting on any deficiencies.
  • Carrying out geological risk assessment studies
  • Preparation of proposal related to geotechnical site investigation, or any other projects as requested.
  • As Senior Geologist, you will supervise, review, investigate, comment and report on all geological/geotechnical matters related to the design and construction activities. The work will require provision of on-site technical support on all geological/geotechnical matters of the project including participating in the assessment of claims by the Contractor relating to geological issues.
  • Establish geological mapping procedures and maintain geological mapping records
  • If required, supervise and monitor drilling contractors for the conduct of geotechnical investigation works for the project.
  • Collaborate with members of the Design Review and construction Supervision Teams on technical matters.
  • Attending meetings with SMEC Project Team, Contractor, Client, other project stakeholders, and ad hoc meetings as required.
  • Prepare progress and technical reports, as required.
  • Review, evaluate and provide comments on the results and findings on the available geological/technical information available
  • Confirm/ validate accuracy of available records both physical and data checks.
  • Identify, describe the environmental risks associated with the project, especially geologic hazards that maybe associated with the project e.g. subsidence, seismicity, etc.
  • Conduct training sessions on geological matters to other SMEC team members of Client's representatives as required.
  • Perform other functions and activities as may be required by the SMEC's representative.
  • Contribute to the review of project close-out documentation, including As-Built drawings.
  • Any other task as assigned by the Regional Lead.

Job Specification

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in civil infrastructure, mining, environmental assessments, land development, energy, water with tunnelling is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in the preparation of Geotechnical factual report.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance in compliance with international quality assurance standards.
  • Some experience in providing critical inputs timely and to the satisfaction of the client.
  • Experience in planning, execution and reporting of geotechnical site investigations and construction materials investigations for large infrastructure projects, preferably infrastructure, hydropower projects, dams and tunnels/underground works.
  • Experience in inspection of tunnel and underground excavations and mapping of geological features.
  • Experience in evaluation of rock support and protection requirements in tunnels and on large, excavated rock slopes.
  • Experience of working in multi‐national and multi‐disciplinary work teams.
  • Familiarity with software such as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of appropriate software applications and design tools for geotechnical applications.
  • Co-operative and flexible work style to accommodate workload and deadlines when required.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel and work abroad at locations as required by ongoing projects; and
  • Participate in continued education, willingness to learn new skills and to remain up to date with technical developments in the geological and geotechnical field and engineering industry
