Job Overview
The role leads Asia SRA functional team within Mars Snacking to ensure the capacity and capability to complete compliance activities, monitoring and activation and external SRA engagement to protect and provide freedom to operate for the segment/region. The SRA director plays a critical role in ensuring the freedom to operate for the business, as well as leading the identification of business growth opportunities by influencing and navigating regulations and advising on scientific and regulatory risk for product, pack and food safety. Role will be required to identify and interpret developing scientific and regulatory issues and translate opportunities to contribute to business strategy. The Director is a People leader leading through great line management also responsible for the performance, development, and engagement of the SRA team for Asia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads a team of associates and contractors based in many Asia countries responsible for the SRA agenda to deliver the Growth ambition for Mars Snacking portfolio in Asia in highly volatile and complex, unharmonized regulatory markets which require final approval (e.g. product registration) from the authorities in most markets.
- Accountable for the development and maintenance of an effective and flexible SRA organization covering Regulatory Compliance, Regulatory Affairs and Scientific Affairs. Ensures effective team development through line management excellence behaviors and create opportunities for development of team and the wider GEM SRA.
- Lead an active external scientific and regulatory affairs engagement and influence strategy in Asia markets to maximize Mars' freedom to operate and drive new opportunities for Mars.
- Lead the change management strategy for Asia to ensure SRA initiatives are met.
- Provide leadership and influence in external trade and scientific organizations in Asia consistent with the Company's scientific and regulatory, FTO and in line with the business strategy of Asia and broader GEM.
- Represent the company externally in various trade, regulatory bodies and scientific organization for Asia as well as scientific and regulatory matters requiring senior leadership.
- Lead technical strategy to effectively influence the external policy environment in Asia to provide maximum freedom to operate and new opportunities for the segment and provide effective SRA guidance to ensure sound internal policy development.
- Monitor and evaluate developing scientific and regulatory issues and opportunities that could influence internal and external policy development and/or business strategy. Maintains a broad knowledge of scientific, regulatory and policy environment in the region.
- Participate in cross-functional project teams and with internal and external senior partners as appropriate to ensure that businesses are guided on a sound scientific and regulatory basis. This include relevant discussions for Pet activities in markets where the teams are responsible for this part of the business.
- Ensure effective cross-segment SRA community communication to align and create a 'one-voice' approach within Asia; align globally on key topics to ensure alignment and consistency.
- Sit on relevant regional, global and cross-segment forums and leadership teams to influence and partner to ensure delivery of business strategy for Asia.
- Excellent knowledge on Asia food legislation, its development and application.
- Lead complex and strategically important SRA projects in Asia, aligning with regional and global teams.
Qualifications:
- Minimum
BSc. in Chemistry, Nutrition, Food Science, Toxicology, Engineering or related technical field. - MSc. or Ph.D. in these any one of these disciplines is preferred.
- At least
10 years in team management/leadership position, experience building high performance teams. Advanced understanding of regulatory affairs innovation and activity management. Successful track record of collaborative product development experience and new product introductions. - Strong business, organization and communication skills.
- Uses experience base with intuition to chart future in ambiguous environment.
- Strong, accountable leadership with the confidence to drive decisions that support quality standards, team success, and responsible resource management.
- Broad internal and external network across region and globe
