Job Purpose:
To assist in managing the provision of all legal services to the MNRB Group (Group) to ensure maximum protection of its legal rights and to maintain its operations within the limits prescribed by law. Provides strategic guidance, consultation, and support to Management on a comprehensive range of legal and associated issues involved in carrying out the mission of the institution.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provides legal counsel and guidance to the officers of the MNRB and Senior Management on all legal matters relevant to the company, including Companies Act, 2016, Financial Services Act, 2013, Islamic Financial Services Act, 2013 and policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, and laws pertaining to reinsurance, takaful, retakaful, contracts, tax matters, employment, worker's compensation and other related laws and regulations.
- Reviews, researches, interprets, and prepares both written and oral opinions on a wide variety of legal issues.
- Drafts, reviews policies and procedures and other legal documents.
- Reviews contracts, scholarship agreements, tenancies, leases, and other legal documents.
- Assist to maintain staffing of legal unit to effectively accomplish the goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff.
- Assist to selects and prepare recommendation to appoint outside counsel, as required, to obtain legal opinions or to handle claims and litigation.
- Supervises legal work of subordinates and outside counsel.
- Provides training to the MNRB community on various legal issues, when required. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Law.
- Good knowledge of common company policies, procedures, BNM statutory guidelines & regulations.
- Good knowledge of both takaful and conventional industry
- More than 5 years of experience as in-house counsel and/or practicing experience
- Ability to provide competent legal advice and counsel to officers and senior management on a wide range of legal and policy issues.
- Knowledge of the range of applicable laws and regulations which impact on all facets of MNRB Group policy and operations.
- Ability to analyze and interpret issues and to prepare legal opinions.
