The Senior Petroleum Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership in well performance, production optimization, and field development to maximize hydrocarbon recovery. The role involves designing and evaluating well programs, supporting drilling and intervention activities, analyzing production data, and recommending solutions to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The Senior Petroleum Engineer will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, ensure compliance with Malaysian regulatory requirements, and mentor junior engineers.

Job Responsibilities

Well & Production Performance

  • Analyze well and reservoir performance using nodal analysis and production modeling tools.
  • Identify and implement production enhancement opportunities including artificial lift, stimulation, and workover activities.
  • Support well testing, completions, and interventions with petroleum engineering input.

Field Development & Operations Support

  • Contribute to field development plans, reserves evaluation, and production forecasting.
  • Provide technical recommendations for well planning, drilling, and completion programs.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to troubleshoot underperforming wells and optimize production strategies.

Data Analysis & Technical Studies

  • Interpret production, pressure, and reservoir data to support reservoir management strategies.
  • Perform decline curve, material balance, and production forecasting studies.
  • Use petroleum engineering software (e.g., Prosper, GAP, MBAL, Eclipse, OFM, WellFlo) to evaluate and recommend engineering solutions.

Leadership & Knowledge Sharing

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical coaching.
  • Lead technical reviews, peer assists, and risk assessments.
  • Promote adoption of best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Compliance & Business Support

  • Prepare technical documentation, proposals, and reports for management, JV partners, and regulators.
  • Support budgeting, cost optimization, and project economics.
  • Ensure all petroleum engineering activities comply with HSE standards and Malaysian regulatory requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant petroleum engineering experience in upstream oil & gas (Malaysia or international).
  • Strong technical expertise in well performance analysis, production optimization, and field development planning.
  • Proficiency in petroleum engineering software such as Prosper, GAP, MBAL, Eclipse, OFM, Petrel.
  • Knowledge of artificial lift systems, stimulation techniques, and well intervention methods.
  • Familiarity with Malaysian offshore/onshore operations and regulatory compliance .
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities, fluent in English.
