Senior Manager, Data Governance

You'll use analytical techniques and your expertise to support delivery of complex analytics and help us better understand our customers and find opportunities for growth.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join this team in the role of Senior Manager, Data Governance.

Role Purpose:

The role is based within the Malaysia DAO team. The main purpose of this position is to drive the delivery of information, analytics and data governance to meet the standards expected by data consumers and BNM's Data Management & MIS Framework. There are 4 key functional responsibilities; data governance, analytics, data technology & emerging technologies - AI.

Principle Responsibilities:

Develop standards, policies and procedures to support the creation and provide technical assurance for the on-going implementation of the data governance policy within the business.

Manage the delivery of the data governance and analytics initiatives.

Lead and develop teams across HSBC to ensure data governance policies and practices are embedded throughout the country.

Align data governance and analytics programmes to the organization's data strategy.

Embed and align data controls with any data governance programs and initiatives.

Use specialist knowledge and expertise to identify improvements through reducing data redundancy and appropriate data reuse.

Continually assess and identify risks in line with the HSBC risk management approach, ensuring they are mitigated and accounted for work within the data governance programme.

Support and supervise information stewardship activities and management of data quality, data privacy, retention, AI and uses.

Develop and implement data quality methodology and standards including profiling, business rules development, remediation process improvement, and data quality monitoring and analysis .

Conduct root cause analysis of business data challenges.

Support project planning and management to ensure best practice and legal frameworks are followed with regards to data governance.

Align data management & governance activities with regulatory requirements (BNM Data Management and MI Framework, BCBS 239, PDPA, Basel III, SOX, etc.)  

Support implementation of Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Automation with the aim to build an AI guidance for regulated activities for the Malaysia financial industry.

Support business functions in achieving analytical and data technology needs.

Educate stakeholders on data governance best practices.

Qualifications:

Essential

Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a major banking organization, with large-scale data or project management and oversight experience.

2+ years in a management role, with change or transformation experience.

Strong technical literacy with knowledge of industry leading analytics, AI, data quality and data protection management practices.

Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection.

Knowledge of data related government regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues.

Demonstrate consulting skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change and performance measurement system design.

Internally and externally recognized subject matter expert that has the resilience to influence the way things are done.

Ability to maintain composure and drive right outcomes under high profile business scrutiny, incorporating change management.

Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail combined with a strong delivery focus and ability to meet aggressive timeframes with quality results.

Excellent planning, organising  and commercial skills including strong financial management capability with tenacity to drive through results.

Strong relationship management capabilities, with great influencing skills and gravitas.

Highly effective negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Self-motivated and self-managed. Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy combined with a decisive collaborative nature.

Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.

Balance approach to risk management including techniques to mitigate risk.

Ability to interact and build relationship with all levels of  internal and external stakeholders.

Operates well across cultures and in multicultural diverse work environments.

Desirable

Relevant degree or post graduate qualification.

Proven experience of working across cultures in a global environment.

Preferred Technical Skills 

Experience in coding using Python or other programming language for data management.

Experience on Cloud technologies such as Google Cloud including Cloud Data Management.

Exposure to automation tool like Alteryx, Prism is added advantage.

Experience in dava visualization tools like Qliksense, PowerBI, Looker.

Appreciation of data architectures such as data fabric.

Certifications like CDMP, or DAMA are a plus.

Preferred Business Skills

Strong knowledge of 1 or more banking domains e.g. risk, credit, etc.
