The Project

The project is to
develop a policy paper for legal and policy reforms to enhance green space connectivity in the Klang Valley by enabling community-led interventions
. It will study community-led efforts, analyse the role and value of civic engagement, and seek to establish a better environment for partnerships between public sector and civil society actors.

This is a joint project by
Pusat KOMAS
and
Kiu & Co.
, in collaboration with the
Malaysian Nature Society
. It is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programmes (SGP) in Malaysia, under the 7
th
Operational Phase, administered by the
United Nations Developmental Programme (UNDP)
. This project will complement the broader
RUGS (Rantaian Urban Green Spaces) (
) project presently undertaken by the Malaysian Nature Society.

Position Description

  • Policy & Legal Review
    : Conducting a comprehensive desk study of Malaysian laws and policies relevant to urban green space management and environmental rights.
  • Stakeholder Coordination
    : Organising and facilitating consultation sessions and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with community-based organisations and other stakeholders.
  • Analysis & Distillation
    : Synthesising findings to identify the enabling and impeding factors that either support or hinder community-led green space interventions.
  • Policy Recommendations
    : Drafting evidence-based policy recommendations focused on increasing public access to information and participation in environmental decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working familiarity with the laws and practice in Malaysia in the public and NGO sectors.
  • At least 3 years' experience in the issues involved.
  • Has an LL.B.

Highly organised, intellectually rigorous, innovative, excellent written English, and ability to work independently.

What Might the Candidate Look Like

Practising lawyer, legal researcher, PhD candidate or masters student (law).

Who is Hiring

You will be engaged by Kiu & Co. under a contract of service, on a full-time basis. You will mostly be working remotely. Some discussions and meetings may take place in the evenings and weekends due to the diversity of people we'll work with.
