Overview:

We're looking for a dedicated Data Center Operator to join our Computer Operations team. This crucial role is responsible for the timely and accurate execution of automated batch processing and scheduled jobs on the IBM i (AS/400) system. You will be key in monitoring batch processing flows, managing system backups, and ensuring the integrity of production data. The Operator must maintain operational efficiency, meet critical Service Level Agreements (SLAs) , and support 24/7 operations through a rotating shift schedule.

Responsibilities:

Batch & Job Management:

• Perform day-to-day computer operations and execute End-Of-Day (EOD) batch processing as per schedules and checklists.
• Ensure adherence to the batch processing schedule and meet agreed-upon service levels.
• Provide support, including report spooling and re-spooling EOD reports upon request.

Monitoring & Incident Handling:

• Monitor system activity and EOD batch flows for any abnormalities.
• Proactively monitor the system console for processing issues and job status messages.
• Perform first-level troubleshooting to diagnose errors and take corrective action according to documented procedures.
• Restart failed jobs following strict restart procedures.
• Notify/escalate abnormalities to the Shift Leader or respective technical support teams

Data & Media Handling:

• Execute all scheduled backups (daily, weekly, monthly) using tools like BRMS.
• Verify backup logs, ensure successful completion, and prepare media for offsite storage.
• Initialize cartridges for daily batch backup purposes.
• Adhere to system security guidelines.

Documentation & Shift Operations:

• Maintain accurate logs of all batch operations and incidents.
• Generate and distribute reports on job completion status and exceptions.
• Perform responsibilities during a rotating shift schedule to support 24/7 operations

Skills & Experience We Are Looking For:

Experience and Education:

• Degree in any field, is preferred, but relevant experience in a data center or IT operations environment will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
• 1 years of experience in a data center or IT operations environment with significant exposure to IBM i (AS/400) batch processing is beneficial.
• Experience with other operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux) and cross-platform scheduling is beneficial.
• Experience with automation tools (Ctrl M, Stonebranch) is an added advantage.

Technical Skills:

• Solid understanding of batch processing concepts and the AS/400 operating environment.
• Experience with backup tools like BRMS is highly preferred.

Soft Skills:

• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve in a time-sensitive environment.
• Excellent communication skills for escalating issues and documenting procedures.
• A reliable work ethic, with the ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
