Lead Backend Developer-Python, PHP

This job can be performed remotely most of the month but the candidate must spend a few days in Johor each month for collaboration with our Johor Bahru R&D team

We build backend systems using PHP and Python, which are linked to physical devices and machines for different projects.

We are also currently the #1 AI Machine Vision Checkout solution in Singapore and Malaysia based on number of deployments.

We serve a range of multinational & government clients in Industrial, Manufacturing, Government & Institutional sectors.

Role Summary:

We are looking for all-roundedSenior Backend Developers who are very experienced building solutions using PHP and Laravel, comfortable managing databases,message queues, and have some experience with Wordpress/Woocommerce

You should also be comfortable with handling some devops esp for deployment of projects, CI/CD

With the advances in AI tools in programming, we also expect that you are comfortable with the use of AI tools ( we leverage off Cursor Pro for our work also)

Role Summary:

We are looking for an all-rounded Lead Backend Developer who is very experienced building solutions using PHP-related tools like Woocommerce,Laravel, building solutions with Python/Flask/Django, and comfortable managing databases,message queues,and handling some devops esp for deployment of projects, CI/CD

This role is a Lead role where you will be expected to see the big picture of overall solutions, and contribute ideas for the goal of creating better solutions and improved systems for the company.

With the advances in AI tools in programming, we also expect that you are comfortable with the use of AI tools ( we leverage off Cursor Pro for our work also)

Job Details:

Review existing systems we run and explore potential improvements or migrations where needed

Work closely with the business team to explore development of new concepts and solutions.

Establish a culture of leveraging AI tools in our solution development, deployment and maintenance, incorporating AI where possible to improve our efficiency and code quality

Maintain a strong culture of clean, explainable code, and maintaining best practises in programming.

Requirements

-The candidate should have a strong background in Python web development using Flask/FastAPI or Django

-The candidate should have a very strong background in PHP, Woocommerce, backend development

-The candidate should have strong background in handling of MySQL and database optimisation

-Cloud-based systems and services (we mainly use DigitalOcean and AWS)

-Understanding and experience in some level of Devops & server mangement, CI/CD, API development, MQTT/Websockets

-Seniors should have strong understanding of Solution architecture & system design

-Our systems interact with hardware devices running Android apps or using MQTT, a strong interest and experience in IoT projects is highly recommended

-Clean code and a strong ability to review and debug AI code

-Most importantly, a strong hunger and excitement and love for software engineering and problem solving, and an interest in building up a new team to innovate and explore new solutions.

Qualifications Experience: At least 4 years Software Development background with a strong focus on Backend systems

Education: Computer Science/Engineer degree

Soft Skills: Leadership, Presentation skills, fluent English
