Job Summary

Provide overall strategic leadership, governance, and compliance oversight for PROTON Group's taxation function. The role ensures effective management of direct and indirect tax matters, including planning, compliance, audits, advisory, and optimization of tax positions across all subsidiaries within the Group.

Job Description

  1. Leadership and Governance

  2. Lead and manage the Group Taxation department, covering both Direct Tax and Indirect Tax (SST, Customs) functions.

  3. Develop and implement Group-wide tax policies, procedures, and internal controls in compliance with Income Tax Act 1967, SST Act 2018, and Customs regulations.
  4. Liaise with regulatory authorities (IRB, Customs), external tax agents, and auditors on all tax-related matters.

  5. Provide strategic tax input to the CFO and Management Committee (MANCO) on business decisions, restructuring, and investment initiatives.

  6. Direct Tax

  7. Oversee the preparation and filing of annual income tax returns (Form C) and tax estimates (CP204) for all Group entities.

  8. Ensure timely and accurate computation and reporting of quarterly tax provisions.
  9. Review and manage tax incentive applications, exemptions, and group relief optimization.
  10. Lead the management of tax audits, queries, and disputes with the Inland Revenue Board.

  11. Provide advisory support to business units on withholding tax, cross-border transactions, and transfer pricing compliance.

  12. Indirect Tax (SST, Customs & e-Invoicing)

  13. Oversee timely preparation and submission of SST returns to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.

  14. Manage import/export compliance, customs documentation, and audits.
  15. Ensure readiness and full compliance with e-invoicing and digital tax requirements.
  16. Review reconciliation of SST data with General Ledger and financial reports.
  17. Advise on SST implications for new products, services, and procurement contracts.

  18. Drive continuous improvement and automation in indirect tax processes and reporting accuracy.

  19. Advisory and Strategic Support

  20. Partner with Finance, Legal, and Operations teams to provide tax-efficient solutions for business initiatives, mergers, and new product launches.

  21. Support capital projects, cross-border structuring, and transfer pricing documentation.
  22. Evaluate tax risks and propose mitigation strategies aligned with Group governance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Professional qualification (CPA, ACCA, ICAEW, or CTIM) required.

  • Minimum 12 years of taxation experience, including 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong background in direct and indirect tax (SST, Customs) within large corporations or multinationals.
  • Experience in automotive taxation, including excise, import/export duties, and industry incentives.

  • Proven record in tax planning, compliance, audits, and advisory.

  • Sound knowledge of Income Tax Act 1967, SST Act 2018, and Customs regulations.

  • Strategic thinker with strong leadership, analytical and communication skills.
  • High integrity and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
