They also manage records, schedule appointments, and may handle billing and payment. Detailed Job Scope:1. Patient Care and Preparation:

  • Welcoming and Preparing Patients: Greet patients, check them in, and ensure they are comfortable.
  • Taking Medical History: Gather patient medical and dental history, vital signs, and take blood pressure.

  • Answering Patient Questions: Address patient concerns and provide information about procedures and oral hygiene.

  • Chairside Assistance:

  • Preparing the Treatment Room: Set up the treatment room, arrange instruments, and ensure the work area is clean and sterile.

  • Assisting During Procedures: Hand instruments, manage suction, hold equipment, and provide support during dental procedures.

  • Taking Impressions: Make dental impressions for study casts or other dental work.

  • Sterilization and Equipment Management:

  • Sterilizing Instruments: Sterilize dental instruments and equipment according to safety protocols.

  • Maintaining Inventory: Manage and order dental supplies and equipment.

  • Record Keeping and Administrative Tasks:

  • Maintaining Patient Records: Keep accurate records of dental treatments, appointments, and other relevant information.

  • Scheduling Appointments: Schedule patient appointments, manage the appointment calendar, and confirm appointments.

  • Billing and Payment: Assist with billing and payment procedures for patients.

  • Other Duties:

  • Educating Patients: Provide instruction on proper oral hygiene, brushing techniques, flossing, and post-treatment care.

  • Taking X-rays: Some dental assistants are trained to take and process dental X-rays.
  • Performing Lab Tasks: Assist with lab tasks as directed by the dentist.
