JOB PURPOSE

  • The AVP is responsible to assist HOD in ensuring that a compliance system is in place to protect the integrity and reputation of the company and to help manage the Shariah Compliance risks as well as assist to avert unintentional rule breaches, provide advice on governance issues and keep the company up to date on regulatory changes relating to Shariah.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Conducts regular assessment on the compliance of the operations, business, affairs and activities of the IFI with Shariah requirements (SGPD-BNM G.18.1)
  • Keep up to date with Shariah regulatory development and application to business operations.
  • Establish and execute the Shariah Review Annual Plan for incorporation in the Compliance Annual Plan to approved and endorsed in Group Shariah Committee meeting.
  • Perform the independent Shariah Review as per the Compliance Annual Plan and/or internal investigation as when required.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of internal controls related to Shariah Non-Compliance risk for TIGB and Malaysian Re. (Shared Services)
  • Perform validation on Business self-attestation Checklists to monitor the deficiencies / action plans identified during the assessment of exercises.
  • Assist AVP in performing the Annual Compliance Risk Assessment. Execute and ensure completion of any other tasks as required by the department or instructed by HOD.
  • Prepare and facilitate compliance awareness/training related to Shariah compliance within the Company via various methods and programs.
  • Provide compliance advisory to business unites on Shariah Compliance/ Shariah Regulatory and related requirements/issues in their day-to-day operations, as and when required.
  • Participate, execute and ensure completion of any other tasks/projects as required by the department or instructed by AVP/HOD.
  • Assist AVP/HOD in preparation of compliance reporting/updates to the management committee.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

Academic

  • Bachelor's Degree in Shariah, which includes study in Usul Fiqh (The Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence) or Fiqh Muamalat
    OR
    Bachelor's degree in Islamic Finance / Finance / Law / Accountancy / or related disciplines.

Professional

  • Professional certification in Certified Qualification in Islamic Finance (CQIF) : Takaful and Certified Shariah Practitioner (CSP)
  • Related Professional certification in Shariah Cert. / Compliance / Audit / Risk Management is an added advantage

Experience

  • Min 5 years related working experience in Shariah Audit / Shariah Compliance / Shariah Risk management in the takaful / banking industry
