UCT is seeking an experienced and talented Category Manager to join our team in Penang, Malaysia. The main function of this role is to increase company margins by negotiating and driving down the costs of sourced products. This involves a thorough understanding of what makes up the specific categories and how the components impact overall costs. To support this, negotiate Contract Agreements with terms favorable to UCT.  And as Category Manager you will be the main point of contact for all supply chain-related issues within your categories and supply base. Category management is responsible for supplier selection and support supplier qualification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, aligns, and implements category management strategies for cable assemblies based on business needs and market conditions.
  • Uses category strategies as the basis for supplier selection, cost reduction, margin improvement and overall supply chain management.
  • Negotiates and manages the maintenance of Agreements with Suppliers that provide the structure for all business relationships between UCT and the supply base (such as General Supply Agreements (GSA), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA), Joint Development Agreements (JDA)
  • Manages and fosters relationships with UCTs' supply base and drives resolution to conflicts.
  • Engages with the Product Life Cycle process to ensure alignment with the category strategies and all UCT's site needs.
  • Directs new supplier introduction and/or disengagement requirements to/from the UCT supply base (assessments, financial viability, etc.).
  • Drives resolution to systemic supply chain issues affecting quality, cost, delivery or lead-time, which may include engagement with sub-tiers in the supply chain.
  • Develops and presents high-level cost reduction opportunities to all UCT sites for execution.
  • Support SMT in Supplier Performance Improvement Plans.
  • Drives formal supplier performance reviews (SBR's)
  • Develops business cases for source selection and changes
  • Manage supplier source changes (transitions) and support and drive closure to part qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of categories and understanding of category management strategies for product
  • Knowledge of supply chain management, procurement, materials management, manufacturing processes, business fundamentals/finance
  • Proven record of success in cost negotiation and contract implementation
  • Advanced project/program management skills and abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn new technologies and manufacturing processes (aptitude/proficiency)
  • Ability to build and lead cross-functional teams
  • Strong matrix management abilities
  • Relationship building abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills, strong negotiation skills.
  • Self motivated and driven to close all projects and duties

Educational/Certification Requirement:

  • BS/BSE level degree in Supply Chain, Business, Mechanical Engineering, or other related technical discipline required.

Experience Requirement:

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years directly related experience
  • Previous work experience in category management build to print (BTP) parts preferrable cable and harness or PCBs, procurement, contracting, materials management, logistics, manufacturing, quality, account management
  • Certification by NAPM (National Association of Purchasing Management) and/or APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) a plus
