Role: Mid-Level Cloud Platform Engineer

Location: Bangsar South

Salary Range: RM 9000 to RM 12,000

Reporting to: Head of Cloud Platform

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Mid-Level Cloud Platform Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be a key contributor in building, scaling, and maintaining our cloud-native infrastructure from the ground up. You will report directly to the Head of Cloud Platform and be instrumental in creating a robust, secure, and highly automated AWS environment that empowers our software development and data science teams.

This is a contract position ideal for a pragmatic engineer with 5-6 years of experience, who thrives in a startup-like atmosphere and is accustomed to end-to-end ownership of the cloud platform. Key Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure & Architecture:

• Design, implement, and manage a secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure on AWS to support development, staging, and production environments.
• Apply strong architectural design principles to build resilient systems that meet business requirements for performance, reliability, and security.
• Take ownership of the entire cloud lifecycle, from conceptualization and design to deployment, monitoring, and optimization (A-Z ownership).

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Automation:

• Develop, maintain, and modularize infrastructure using Terraform as the primary IaC tool.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure code to ensure repeatable and reliable deployments.
• Automate operational tasks, security controls, and cost-optimization checks to reduce manual toil.

Platform Enablement & Developer Experience:

• Develop and maintain a self-service internal developer platform (IDP) with appropriate governance guardrails, enabling product teams to develop and deploy quickly and safely.
• Collaborate closely with software developers and data scientists, treating them as customers and ensuring the platform meets their needs for agility and performance.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for platforms, tools, and processes.

Operational Excellence & Observability:

• Implement and manage comprehensive observability solutions, including monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting to provide real-time insights into the health of our cloud environments.
• Proactively identify and resolve issues to maintain high availability and performance, especially for production systems where downtime has a material business impact.
• Participate in on-call rotation and incident response, demonstrating a calm and systematic approach to problem-solving under pressure.

Security & Cost Optimization:

• Embed cloud-native cybersecurity best practices into every layer of the infrastructure.
• Continuously monitor and optimize cloud spending without compromising on performance or security.

Skills & Qualifications

Must-Haves:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5-6 years of hands-on experience in the software industry, with a proven track record of building and managing cloud infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• High proficiency with Terraform for managing infrastructure as code in a production environment.
• Demonstrated experience in a startup or similar fast-paced environment where you were responsible for end-to-end (A-Z) tasks, from architectural design to implementation and ongoing maintenance.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles, networking, and security.
• Proven ability to work autonomously, manage priorities, and own deliverables with minimal supervision.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a structured approach to complex challenges.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with Microsoft Azure or other cloud providers.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS).
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
• Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
• Experience in managing infrastructure for data science/AI workloads.
