Why does this job exist and why is it critical?​

As Senior Tax Specialist, this position is responsible to lead and work closely with Head of Tax to optimise the performance of the tax function, overall management of the direct tax compliance (including tax accounting and reporting) and advisory/planning of the Maxis Berhad Group of Companies and Maxis Communications Berhad (MCB) Group.

The position is expected to participate in Industry initiatives and lead/participate in cross functional initiatives, including lobbying the Government for tax incentives/concessions, participating in Government forums on behalf of the organisation. It includes handling taxation aspects of special projects such as M&A, tax incentives applications, transfer pricing management etc. The position is also expected to oversee and manage tax audits and appeals (whenever necessary) including liaison with tax authority and review of legal documents.

What are you accountable for?

• Ensure accurate and timely compliance for direct and indirect taxation matters of Maxis Group. Ensure positions taken are supported and outcome /financial impact to the Group is managed
• Industry collaboration and industry tax matters
• Negotiate and mediate with various government authorities on taxation matters.
• Active participation in selected major business decisions and value contribution through strategic tax planning and where tax expertise is required. Influence stakeholders to adopt best practices with a view to achieving tax optimisation and save costs.
• Tax risk identification and communication to relevant stakeholders and to ensure appropriate mitigation plans and controls are in place as required and processes are efficient.  Understand the aspirations and constraints of relevant stakeholders and communicate with them effectively in order to help achieve their goals.

What do you need to have for this role?

• Degree or professional qualification in Accounting. (Preferably a member of Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia or professional accounting body but not mandatory).
• Minimum 15 years of related working experience.
• In depth knowledge of the Income Tax legislation & guidelines. Knowledge of specific issues affecting the Telco Industry and SST legislation/Customs Guidelines are added advantage.
• Dynamic with mature personality and ability to work independently with minimum supervision to deliver results under stressful circumstances and tight deadlines.
• A proactive approach to problem solving, strong team player with sound management skills in leading teams and able to work with various levels within and outside the company.
