Role Purpose

The Engineering Draughtsman is responsible for creating, reviewing, and maintaining detailed technical drawings and CAD models for fasteners. The role ensures designs meet customer specifications, industry standards, and production feasibility, while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and new product development.


Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Drawing & Design

  • Prepare accurate 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Interpret engineering specifications, customer drawings, and standards to develop manufacturing-ready drawings.
  • Update and maintain drawing records, revisions, and documentation.

2. Product Development Support

  • Work closely with Design, Engineering, and Quality teams to develop new fastener products for automotive applications.
  • Assist in prototyping, testing, and design verification processes.
  • Ensure drawings comply with automotive standards, tolerances, and material specifications.

3. Production & Manufacturing Coordination

  • Collaborate with Production, Tooling, and Procurement teams to ensure manufacturability of designs.
  • Provide technical support to resolve production issues related to fastener design or specifications.
  • Ensure all drawings are clear, precise, and fully aligned with production capabilities.

4. Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all designs comply with internal quality standards and fastener industry requirements.
  • Support documentation for customer approvals (PPAP, control plans, inspection drawings).
  • Identify and suggest improvements to reduce manufacturing defects or assembly issues.

5. Continuous Improvement & Mentoring

  • Suggest design improvements for cost reduction, efficiency, and performance.
  • Mentor junior draughtsman and support skill development within the engineering team.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Accuracy and completeness of engineering drawings and CAD models.
  • Timeliness of drawing completion and revisions for production and customer requirements.
  • Number of production issues related to design errors.
  • Support in successful new product development projects.
  • Compliance with automotive standards (IATF and customer specifications.

Requirements / Competencies

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years' experience as a Draughtsman in manufacturing
  • Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of fastener standards.
  • Understanding manufacturing processes, tolerances, and material specifications.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Familiarity with quality standards (IATF 16949, PPAP) is an advantage.
