Secondary English Teacher

As a Secondary English educator (KS3/4), you will play a key role in developing students' critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills while preparing them to meet the requirements of the Cambridge IGCSE First Language English (FLE) syllabus. With knowledge of and experience in IGCSE FLE, you will design engaging, student-centred lessons that strengthen reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while guiding students through essential skills such as summary, directed writing, analysis, and extended responses. At the same time, you will inspire learners to explore diverse texts, engage with meaningful themes, and connect language learning to real-world contexts—nurturing them into thoughtful readers, articulate writers, and compassionate communicators.

Who are we looking for individuals with:

• A Bachelor's Degree in English, Education, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of teaching experience, ideally in an international or Cambridge setting.
• A proven track record in teaching IGCSE First Language English, with familiarity in Cambridge assessment objectives, rubrics, and exam strategies.
• Strong classroom management skills and adherence to school protocols.
• Proficiency in digital tools and classroom technology to enhance instructional delivery.

What will you need to do

• Teach up to 18 hours per week of Secondary English classes, with a focus on KS3/4 and IGCSE FLE preparation.
• Plan and deliver lessons aligned with LUCA's Annual Topical/Skillset Plans (ATASP) and Cambridge FLE curriculum.
• Prepare and submit lesson materials (keynotes, worksheets, assessments) at least one week in advance for review and approval.
• Integrate 21st-century learning approaches that encourage independent thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
• Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments, essays, and mock exams; maintain accurate records of student progress.
• Identify learning strengths and gaps, implementing targeted interventions or enrichment strategies.
• Design and evaluate Semester Project Work; participate in curriculum reviews for continuous improvement.
• Serve as a class teacher when required and cover lessons for colleagues as needed.
• Lead or contribute to at least one Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) to extend learning beyond the classroom.
• Collaborate with division heads and colleagues on curriculum planning, assessment mapping, and professional development.

• Engage actively in school events and parent communications, fostering a strong sense of school community and student well-being.
