Qualifications & Certifications

    Experience

    • Preferably 3 years of experience as an Assistant Driller or previous experience in a Driller role
    • Preferably some experience in Oil & Gas drilling operations
    • Preferably french speaking crew since work location is Africa region

      Skill / Attributes / Competencies

    • High level of verbal and written communication in English.
  • Ability to access and work at heights up to 60 metres
The Driller is required to work on a day or night shift Be at a level of fitness so can carry out various duties including use of SCBA, walk throughout multi-level areas of tender and DES and lifeboat operator Maintain BMI levels as per Company & Client's requirements The incumbent is expected to be mobile to cover similar roles within the fleet Meet the training requirements as per company's training matrix. Ability to competently and safely perform duties defined in the job description

 

Main Responsibilities

 

The Driller is the designated "person in charge" of real time drilling operations ensuring the safety of the drill crew and support personnel working around the drill floor. This includes monitoring of the rig's activity, running of the brake and drills the well. He is also responsible for interpreting the signals the well gives regarding gas and fluids with high pressure, gas levels coming out of the hole, amount of drilling mud is going in, and other information. In an emergency the Driller will be responsible for taking the correct counter measures to stop an uncontrolled well control situation from emerging.

 

Minimum Job Functions

Includes, but is not limited to and not in order of priority:

Ensures full compliance with all mandatory procedures and regulations that relate to drilling operations Ensures the strict adherence of the Company Safety Management System, that is, compliance with legislation, company policies, standards, procedures and monitoring compliance by personnel Promotes and maintains a safe environment for all personnel, ensuring on-going development and training of employees plus ensure their competence level. Observe and monitor well conditions through drilling parameters. In the event of downhole problems, take appropriate action. Make pre-kick calculations and ensure that all equipment and procedures for well control are in place at all times. Secure the well during an emergency or well control situation - assist in the well killing operations. Verify and confirm well control & monitoring systems and other equipment at the start of each shift for drilling and work-over Operations. Personally ensuring that all BOP, BPM Valves, the Koomey Control System and the COM are set accordingly for current operations, and are fully functional. While some of these checks may be delegated the Driller shall always remain accountable. Provide strong and consistent safety leadership and direction to team members to ensure that the drilling crew performs all tasks safely and efficiently. Lead daily drilling operations in collaboration with Tourpusher ensuring the safe handling and operation all drilling related tools and equipment. Pressure test well control equipment at appropriate stages during drilling to Client/ Company standards. Record and store test results. Filling in the daily drilling reports and maintaining records for the drilling line. Maintain accurate records of tubulars run in the hole including pipe tally, full BHA/completion components and critical fishing dimensions e.g. ID/OD and connections. Take immediate action to contain, eliminate or guard against actual and potential hazards to safety, health, plant and equipment that come to their attention in the course of their work. Ensure all equipment and resources are available to progress operations in the most efficient manner. Plan towards operations such that they can be carried out in a safe and efficient manner and contingency equipment and plans are accounted for. Reporting any change in down-hole activity that may affect the drilling, work over or completion program, so that contingencies can be planned to ensure the integrity of the well. Inform Supervisor and Client Representative if a deviation from any planned operation occurs. Maintain safe operating conditions for company assets and safety of rig based personnel through continual preventative maintenance by carrying out audits/ inspections and repair of the equipment used in the drilling operations. Bring to the immediate notice of their supervisor actual and potential hazards to safety, health, plant and equipment that come to their attention in the course of their work, to warn crew of the hazard and take such action as to minimize the risk. During rig moves assist with the safe dismantling and erection of the Drilling Equipment Set (DES). Coaching and supervising the Assistant Driller, Derrickmen, Roughnecks and other personnel who may work in the area. Carry out Trip Assessment at the appropriate time for both new and existing staff.

 

SAFETY RESPOSIBILITIES:

Understand safety critical barrier responsibilities as defined within the Rigs safety case (available from your supervisor) Understand safety critical procedures, safety critical equipment and safety critical activities associated with safety critical barriers as defined within the Rigs safety case Maintain effectiveness of safety critical barriers as defined in the Rigs safety case Lead safety by example for all employees to follow Promotes safety awareness and safe work practice among all the personnel on board Implement and lead company and operator safety programs and initiatives Leading participation in and compliance with the Permit to Work system Conduct pre-tour and pre-job safety meetings in compliance with the company requirements (which includes use of the 4-Point check / Energy Wheel and TBRA tools), ensuring that crews have participated fully in discussions, have determined the safest method to complete the task and have a full understanding of the work to be performed (especially their individual role) Report all hazards and positively intervene in all observed unsafe acts (Stop Work Authority) Participate in emergency drills, including post-drill debriefs Attend General Safety Meetings Instruct his crews in the safest work methods and provide On-the-Job training Carry out all work activities within the guidelines of Company or Operator Policies or Procedures Ensuring he is familiar with any delegated responsibilities as detailed in the Operators Emergency Response Plan Ensure that they and the persons under their authority properly use and care for their personal protective equipment Ensure that all work places for personnel are always, so far as reasonably practical, safe and clean.
