P & B Metal Components are looking for an electrical maintenance engineer to complete a level 3 mechatronics maintenance technician apprenticeship. As an apprentice, the candidate will be provided with guidance and training to develop the skills necessary for a successful career as an Electrical maintenance engineer. The role will be focused on learning and contributing to the maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment within the organisation.

Role & responsibilities:

The candidate's primary responsibilities will include learning and assisting with various tasks related to the repair and upkeep of electrical systems, machinery, and facilities. The role will involve developing essential skills and knowledge in the field of electrical maintenance. An overview of the role's duties are listed below:

  • Assist in addressing electrical breakdowns on machines, equipment, and facilities under the guidance of experienced engineers
  • Learn and support the implementation of planned and preventative maintenance (PPM) procedures to ensure that machinery operates efficiently, and plant availability is maximised
  • Gain experience in using the Piranha CMMS system for receiving and reporting completed work tasks
  • Help with the repair or replacement of damaged electrical items in buildings and ancillary equipment
  • Participate in the design, construction, and inspection testing of new electrical installations
  • Assist in ensuring that all new and existing installations comply with relevant regulations
  • Learn and support the process of portable appliance testing
  • Participate in retesting and certification of equipment in accordance with relevant regulations
  • Work on maintenance tasks following the priority order established by senior engineers
  • Assist in plant maintenance activities for both mechanical and electrical systems, including presses, welders, and ancillary equipment
  • Learn to identify and address plant-related faults and perform necessary repairs
  • Support planned plant repair and servicing activities
  • Assist with modifications to plant equipment, such as guards and upgrades
  • Under the guidance of experienced engineers, contribute to plant installations, including mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components
  • Regularly report the progress and status of assigned tasks to the maintenance Lead
  • Gain experience in the process of ordering required parts through a computer-based purchase requisition program
  • Participate in stocktaking activities for spare parts and assist in reordering critical items as needed to avoid shortages
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers to arrange for contractors when tasks exceed the capabilities of the maintenance team, always with authorisation from the Maintenance Lead
  • Work collaboratively and seek guidance from senior engineers to provide practical solutions for plant equipment failures
  • Learn to communicate effectively, sharing progress and updates with various business functions
  • Acquire knowledge of PLC systems and their programming, under the supervision of experienced engineers
  • Strictly adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines at all times, ensuring a safe work environment

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
