Reporting To: RD&A Director
The successful Technologist will be part of Research, Development & Applications (RDA) team, based out of Kerry Shah Alam in Malaysia. Your role will be to assist the team to carry out all RDA activities that are a vital part of development, focusing on the development of new emulsifiers by a strong chemical understanding of the food esters.
Key responsibilities
Development & applications projects:
- Oversees projects from customer or internal brief through to hand over to site at scale up phase.
- Conducts detailed research for the improvement of existing products.
- Keeps up to date on key scientific developments (literature, patents and more).
- Works closely with site and application team to adapt emulsifier range to food product requirements and technical support on product functionality.
- To assist in pilot trial runs and sample making.
- Support innovation for new product development and new business opportunities to meet customer and consumer needs.
- Participate in process and plant improvement projects as key member to contribute and investigate solutions and ideas that are based on improved chemistry, altering product composition.
- Interface with internal and external scientific experts, to identify scientific opportunities to help advance product innovation, support business regulatory functions with claims and positioning.
Product & Raw Material Portfolio support and maintenance:
- Understanding of raw material portfolio on its functionality, physical, chemical and microbiological compositions.
- Maintains adequate stock of standardized “collection” products.
Validating ingredient functionality into final products:
- Understanding the ingredient functionality.
- To validate product stability via a design of shelf life studies.
Documentation of results
- Prepares project plan, executes lab experiments, ensures all outputs are recorded according to established protocols, evaluates the results, and writes clear reports.
- Documents all research notes in computer databases, records and disseminates key learnings.
Laboratory Maintenance
- Follows established procedures in relation to laboratory maintenance and stock control.
- Ensures that good laboratory practices and lab protocols are being utilized.
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Food or Process Engineering or a related Applied Science field.
- Open to fresh graduates with experience in any laboratory, pilot plant and factory experience through past food industry internships is preferred.
- Strong interest in gaining knowledge of ingredients & recipe formulation.
- Independent learner who is open to be guided by Seniors & Managers within the organization.
