Shell Malaysia Upstream is a core country for Shell with both conventional and Deepwater assets that generate significant Free Cash Flow annually for Shell, supporting distributions and new investments in the transformation of Shell's portfolio into the 2030s.

The Shell Malaysia Upstream portfolio consists of the following:

  • A number of Shell Operated Ventures (SOV) Gas and Oil Producing fields in the Sarawak Asset that supply gas into the MLNG onshore plant in Bintulu.
  • Substantial Non-Operated Ventures (NOV) portfolio of deepwater oil asset in the Block G PSC (SNP), producing gas fields in KBB PSC and SK320 PSC (Pegaga), and several other gas fields in development and execution within our gas heartland.
  • The Gumusut-KakapGeronggong-Jagus East (GKGJE) and Malikai deepwater oil fields in the Sabah Asset that deliver 150 kboepd annually and with ongoing infill projects GKGJE Ph3 (First Oil Date Q and GKGJE Ph 4 (Spud Q


The Malaysia Development and Subsurface team consists of about 170 Exploration and Development professionals that are focused on the safe execution and operation of our wells and assets, in delivering production gains through prudent WRFM, and in delivering more than 50 new development & exploration wells over the next 5 years to enable future growth and sustain our business into the future.


Where You Fit In
This position reports to WRFM Subsurface Team Lead Sabah, who reports to the Area Development & SS Manager Sabah.

The WRFM Subsurface Team is a multidisciplinary subsurface team of 12 FTEs working closely with the Sabah WRFM Manager to safely maximize cash delivery and asset value through surveillance, production system optimization and well and facility interventions.

You will be responsible for providing petrophysical engineering support to all subsurface WRFM technical delivery across GKGJE and Malikai with a heavy focus on well and reservoir management.


About The Role

As a Production Technologist you will:

  • Ensure high quality PT technical input to activities in the Sabah WRFM (Well Reservoir Facility Management) Team, including but not limiting to well integrity, surveillance, restoration and optimization of existing well stocks. This involves proactively working together with Well Engineering and Asset teams.
  • Identify and assess well surveillance and optimization opportunities that deliver the most production from the asset well stock.
  • Manage well integrity in Sabah Asset, contribute to the performance KPI for the asset by ensuring the surveillance and maintenance of well safety critical elements (SCE) are completed according to Group and local standards.
  • Support any functional improvement initiatives and share learnings and best practice in internal company technical forums and external conferences.

What We Need from You

  • Minimum of 3 years of EP experience with an emphasis on field / reservoir management, reservoir and well surveillance.
  • Good understanding of the risks and technical issues associated with subsurface, wells and surface production system.
  • Competent in well performance modeling, well and reservoir surveillance and well integrity management.
  • A good understanding of oil well production enhancement techniques and technologies covering acid stimulation, water and gas shut off.
  • Has a university degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Has relevant experience in WRFM and/or opportunity maturation.
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
