Main Responsibilities

  • To be fully incharge of the animal clinic and R&D laboratory equipment and facility inventory and operations. Responsible for providing healthcare for all livestock.

Minimum Job Expectations

Operational_

  • To work closely with the aquarium Curator and Curatorial team in all maintenance and operations aspects.
  • To ensure that statutory and any other legal records in respect of the running of the aquarium and penguinarium are properly maintained including the facilities, assets, operational expenses and accountability of livestock.
  • To plan, conduct research, recommend and place the exhibits in a presentable environment and proper stocking.
  • To monitor air and water contaminants (fungus & bacteria) and supervise the treatment (clinafarm smoke etc.) for the penguins, seals, rainforest and related areas on regular basis. To supervise the hygiene condition of display area and back of the house.
  • To ensure that the biotic and abiotic factors are aligned to the optimum in the life support system and environment for the exhibits.
  • To monitor and to ensure proper nutrition and diets are given accordingly to the exhibits for good health.
  • To prepare an update the standard operation procedure on animal feeding and diets; disease diagnosis; treatment; post mortem; quarantine and disease prevention measures (for the animal and keeper)
  • To plan, monitor and supervise the daily animal keeping. To carry out preventive and treatment procedures; disease diagnosis, vaccination and treatment, livestock quarantine and correct animal husbandry.
  • To focus on animal breeding program. To plan and recommend to the management for the facility require; expending to breed the potential species such as penguins.
  • To plan and conduct in-house research and development for better housing of livestock and live support system.
  • To provide training to staff on livestock knowledge, proper handling, basic disease diagnosis and husbandry procedure of livestock.
  • To establish good relationship with related NGO like WWF, related government departments and universities for joined research in exhibitions, conservation and educational aspects.
  • To work towards transforming the UWL to become an entertainment, educational and research center on aquatic animal and wildlife.
  • To make proposal from time to time Management for upgrading the exhibitions and better co-ordination in management of the establishment.
  • To have a complete understanding of and adhere to the department's policies relating to Fire, Hygiene, Health and Safety.

Pay:
RM3, RM3,800.00 per month
