Reporting to: Head of Secondary/ Head of Primary

Main purpose

To support the identification of students with EAL needs and ensure their appropriate support through leading the day-to-day operation of the ELLA Programme, including the delivery of lessons, assessments and the monitoring of students' progress.

NB: The schools EAL Policy addresses where level of English language is a barrier to learning and then responding to their needs through the Waves in the ELLA Programme.

OBJECTIVES:

➢ To develop and maintain an effective ELL programme that enables students to increase their access to the core-curriculum within 2 terms.

➢ To raise the standards of achievement of students who are identified in the ELLA Programme.

➢ To increase staff confidence and competence in teaching students in the ELLA Programme.

Roles & Responsibilities

Welfare & Safeguarding

· Ensure a Wave 1 to Wave 4 programme is in place to support students with ELL needs.

· Work alongside teachers to identify students who need support from the ELLA Programme

· Support new student enrolment process to identify any EAL students, as part of admission Interpret a range of assessments to identify appropriate support for students, including interviewing new students with a possible ELL need.

· Communicate any such need to the Head of School, to inform admission decisions.

Top Academic Outcomes

· Ensure an appropriate curriculum is in place that enables ELL students to make the necessary progression.

· Ensure the department is well-resourced to meet students' needs and deliver the above.

· Work alongside faculty colleagues to develop appropriate support for students in the ELLA Programme within the core-curriculum.

· Model outstanding inclusive teaching and support colleagues as appropriate.

· In conjunction with school leaders, monitor teaching and learning, including planning and work scrutiny, to ensure they meet the school's expectations of teachers.

Holistic Character Development

· Liaise with the Head of School and CCA Coordinator to ensure ELLA students are included in and participate in the Co-Curricular programme.

· Liaise with the Head of School and Key Stage Lead to agree on the students, withdrawal timetable and appropriate immersion in the core curriculum programme.

Continuous Improvement

· Evaluate the impact of inclusive teaching and support teaching and support staff to improve practice.

· Ensure all staff are kept up to date with teaching and learning strategies that promote effective inclusive practice for EAL.

· Support the planning and delivery of training for all staff in relation to overcoming barriers to learning and statutory responsibilities.

Future Proof Preparation

· Track and monitor students' progress, providing a report of such to the Head of School on a half-termly basis.

· Liaise with parents of ELLA students, offering a range of parental workshops and information sharing opportunities.

· Organise and manage the completion of all reports and their communication with home.

· Ensure up-to-date and accurate records are kept of all interventions/involvement for individual students.

Additional Tasks

· Assist with the updating and review of the ELLA Handbook.

· Collaborate with outside agencies to raise the achievement of students within the ELLA Programme.

· Develop and attend network for sharing good practice across the school, the cluster of schools and within the AIMS and FOBISIA networks.

· Undertake professional development activities to increase own effectiveness.

· Keep abreast of developments and advice relating to EAL/ESL.

· Create a well-resourced and welcoming in the ELLA Programme.
