Job Description

POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY

  • Rides on fire vehicles to aircraft accidents and structural fires at the airport, utilizing firefighting and rescue facilities/equipment to extinguish related fires and perform rescue work of victims involved in these incidents.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTION

  • Lead the Operations and Management of AFRS.
  • Ensure AFRS at the airport level meets the requirements of International and Local Standards.
  • Report directly to Airport Manager.
  • Manage and administer the overall schedule of AFRS personnel in the station.
  • Manage and administer the overall people management activities of AFRS personnel in the station (i.e. Leave, training, learning, fitness, etc.).
  • Gather, review, and analyze data and information and subsequently prepare the necessary reports as requested by the relevant authorities.
  • Provide AFRS personnel in the station with information about the latest developments related to their function to ensure their highest level of awareness, knowledge, skills, and understanding in their particular roles.
  • Lead and manage the implementation of any initiative or project which has been suggested or requested by the relevant authorities to ensure the adequate level of effectiveness and efficiency in the way AFRS conducts its operations.
  • Act as the communication channel between the corporate function and the operations to clearly identify and request support to ensure compliance with international regulations and improvement in the way AFRS operations are conducted.
  • Interact regularly with other relevant authorities within the airport to ensure adequate levels of coordination and cooperation in the event of the necessity to implement a firefighting or rescue operation within the airport or adjacent areas.
  • Manage and communicate with the mechanical unit to ensure all AFRS vehicles and equipment are operational.
  • Ensure all equipment and vehicles are serviceable to maintain Airports Category.
  • Ensure maintenance program (daily, weekly, monthly) is implemented as per schedule.
  • Extinguish fire in the stipulated timeframe to minimize damage and eliminate threat to life.
  • Perform strenuous and life-threatening work in a noisy, fiery, smoky, and extremely dangerous environment.
Skills
  • Working experience as internal/external trainers in AFRS studies is an added advantage.
  • Working knowledge and experience in fire prevention and building certification, ISO 9001:2000, OSHA 94 and Civil Act 1969, ICAO, UBBL, Fire Act 341.
  • Working knowledge and experience in Fire Management and training.
  • Knowledge in ICAO-ANNEX 14, Airport Service Manual, ICAO Training Manual, NFPA.
  • Knowledge in AFRS operations, staffing, fire vehicles, equipment, and others.
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer service oriented with a pleasant personality.
  • Good in both written and spoken Bahasa Malaysia and English.
Minimum Requirements
  • Diploma holder with a minimum of 2 years working experience in AFRS; or
  • HSC/STPM holder with a minimum of 5 years working experience in AFRS; or
  • MCE/SPM holder with a minimum of 7 years working experience in AFRS; and
  • Basic firefighting certificate from Malaysia Airport Training Center, Jabatan Bomba Penyelamat Malaysia or other international certification related to this field.
  • Must achieve and maintain the following performance rating for two (2) consecutive years of at least Exceptional / A or Outstanding / B; and Minimum Meet Expectations / C.
  • The employee must not be subjected to disciplinary punishments except for disciplinary counselling, caution, reminder & warning for the past 36 consecutive months immediately preceding the promotion.
