Role Overview
AGA is seeking a full-time Associate based in our Kuala Lumpur office. Our Associates assume high project responsibility and lead daily client and stakeholder engagements. Associates are also expected to play important mentorship roles for junior team members. Depending on a candidate's skills and experience, s/he may assume increased responsibilities in office management and client development.
The candidate we seek will have expertise in policy and stakeholder engagement in Malaysia and demonstrable connectivity with the Malaysian government. The Associate will lead day-to-day client engagements, manage complex policy projects, mentor junior colleagues, and support business development initiatives. Candidates must demonstrate significant experience working with the Malaysian government, excellent project management capabilities, and a proven track record in strategic advisory roles.
Ideal candidates possess deep familiarity with Malaysia's political landscape, economic policies, regulatory frameworks, and stakeholder dynamics. Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia (spoken and written) is essential.
Responsibilities include:
- Structuring and proposing solutions to client challenges and issues
- Building, maintaining, and managing client relationships
- Overseeing the preparation, drafting and finalization of analytical reports
- Leading project work, including research, presentation to clients and ensuring all deliverables are up to the highest quality
- Building networks and relationships with bureaucrats and public officials, the business community, civil society organizations, government institutions and other relevant stakeholders
- Supporting business development efforts, including the drafting of proposals and participation in pitches
- Working on special projects as needed and assigned
Desired skills and experience:
- Five plus years' experience in government relations, corporate affairs, and/or strategic communications in Malaysia
- Demonstrated experience engaging effectively with mid-to-senior-level Malaysian government officials, business executives, and regulatory bodies
- Working experience and strong familiarity with government stakeholders, coupled with a high-level understanding of the investment and policy climate in Malaysia
- The ability to interpret complex current issues, policy and political movements to produce concise and client-ready in briefings and reports
- Engaging interpersonal negotiation and communication skills, including experience in cross-cultural environments and international settings
- Fluent in English and Malay, both written and oral
- The ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines while managing multiple projects
- The ability to mentor and train junior team members
- The ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
