Support Graymont's operations, license to operate and growth prospects in South East Asia by leading the company's regional corporate affairs and health, safety, and environment function. The role requires managing a small team, collaborating with internal partners and maintaining diverse stakeholder relationships to ensure Graymont delivers the highest standards in external relations, HSE, and sustainability.

Key focus areas the role will include:

Regional Leadership Team
  • Actively participate in the Southeast Regional Leadership Team to facilitate effective cross-functional alignment and collaboration and support the delivery of regional priorities in the markets we operate – Malaysia and the Philippines.
  • Represent the region with professionalism in internal and external forums to help advance Graymont's Southeast Asia strategy.
  • Develop and deliver plans to shape the policy and regulatory environment to enable our business objectives.
  • In collaboration with regional and functional leaders, develop and maintain professional relationships with key policymakers, legislators, regulators, industry leaders, and influencers while maintaining the highest standards of integrity.
  • Advocate for Graymont's social, environmental and economic contribution in the locations we operate through compelling communications aligned with global brand positioning.
  • Support SEA sites to ensure proactive and value-adding community engagement that is aligned with company values and strengthen Graymont's reputation.
  • Lead the development of regional crisis management capability and act as the initial manager in the event of a crisis.
  • Coordinate any proactive and reactive media relations with other functional leaders.
HSE
  • Foster a mature safety culture across Southeast Asia (SEA) where people are looking out for their own and their co-workers' health and safety.
  • Partner with Director Operations SEA and site HSE personnel to drive continuous improvement in HSE and ensure compliance with Graymont HSE Standards and all relevant HSE regulatory requirements.
  • Develop plans to support SEA sites address new regulatory and compliance matters and provide support to sites and functions to prepare reports and permit applications.
  • Lead the regional/local execution of global HSE and sustainability initiatives to deliver outcomes aligned to Graymont's strategic objectives.
  • Partner with the Operations function to drive a sustained reduction in safety and environmental incidents, ensuring effective risk management, appropriate training, competency verification, and implementation of Graymont best practice.
  • Support safety and environmental incident investigations, helping to identify and implement corrective and preventative measures, including organisational factors.
  • Lead strategic environmental permitting projects in collaboration with Graymont regional and functional leaders by liaising with regulatory authorities, coordinating external resources, and supporting engagement with relevant stakeholders.
Team & General Management
  • Support, coach and develop direct reports and empower them to achieve.
  • Prepare corporate affairs and HSE project updates and reports as required for the senior, Asia Pacific, and regional leadership teams, as well as the Board of Directors.
  • Provide information and data to meet internal and external reporting requirements, including GHG emissions and Graymont's sustainability report.
  • Participate in due diligence activities related to acquisitions or other business development activities.
  • Actively support the global corporate affairs and HSE team to develop, implement and review relevant strategies, policies, standards, procedures, practices and projects.
Outcomes
  • All SEA sites meet Graymont Safety and Environment Standards and the relevant HSE regulatory requirements and are continuously improving.
  • Positive, proactive and value-adding relationships with key external stakeholders including government, regulators, local community and industry bodies.
  • All relevant permits are obtained in a timely manner across SEA.
  • SEA sites are provided with appropriate HSE and sustainability guidance and support.
  • HSE and Sustainability outcomes are aligned to the Graymont strategy and are delivered through cross-functional collaboration and partnership with key regional and functional leaders across the business.
  • Demonstrated improvements in safety culture maturity across SEA sites.
Role Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in public and government affairs, Health & Safety, Environment, or a related area
  • Experience in public and government affairs in SEA, particularly Malaysia, and/or HSE in a primary industry or similarly highly regulated sector
  • Proven track record developing and promoting a safe work culture and understanding of Malaysia DOSH Department of Occupational, Safety and Health (Green Book)
  • Demonstrated experience successfully developing and implementing health and safety strategies and initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience with behavioural-based safety and HSE management systems
  • Experience leading and working on cross-regional initiatives with ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant SEA regulatory requirements and demonstrated experience working with regulators
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder and community engagement and achieving outcomes through building positive relationships
  • Self-motivated with ability to solve problems independently and pursuing value creating opportunities
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing high achieving teams and individuals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to influence others
  • Proficient in basic computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Bilingualism (English and Bahasa Malaysia)
