Regulatory Affairs Manager

We are looking for an ambitious and experienced Regulatory Affairs Manager who will lead projects and mission-critical work focusing on Ingredients, Codex standards regulatory development to support innovations across the Asia region. Reporting to the Head of Science & Regulatory Affairs, this role will be responsible for implementing FIA strategy in driving advocacy efforts, stakeholder engagement, event coordination in addition to identifying emerging issues and analysing the regulatory development in the world and how it will impact our members in Asia. The individual will work closely with senior professionals, experts from leading food and beverage companies, and regulatory authorities across Asia to foster collaboration within the food industry.
The ability to understand global trade policies, food safety regulations, Codex Alimentarius frameworks, and market regulatory approvals will be critical to this role.
Key ResponsibilitiesRegulatory Policies Monitoring Analysis & Advocacy- Monitor and analyse national and international regulatory developments related to ingredients, additives, enzymes, and novel foods.
- Assess changes in Codex Alimentarius standards, food safety regulations, and import/export requirements impacting ingredient suppliers and food manufacturers.
- Conduct regulatory risk assessments to identify emerging trends related to ingredients applications market approvals, in Asia.
- Act as a subject matter expert on regulation related to ingredient and new technologies, including specifications, purity criteria, and functional classifications.
- Communicate findings and insights through FIA's regulatory intelligence resources, such as weekly updates, monthly reports, and bi-monthly regulatory heatmaps.
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies to promote regulatory coherence for ingredients and related matters across Asia.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with regulatory authorities and Codex representatives to provide input on ingredient-related regulatory frameworks.
- Engage with international bodies such as FAO, WHO, and national food safety agencies to contribute to ingredient standard development and harmonization efforts.
- Collaborate with regulatory and scientific committees to address ingredient safety assessments, novel enzyme approvals, and processing aid regulations.
- Participate in public hearings, working groups, and industry consultations to advocate for science-based regulatory decisions.
- Support FIA members by providing expert insights on ingredient and ingredient related matters regulatory landscapes.
- Support the planning and execution of FIA-led events, including industry conferences, technical symposiums, and networking sessions with regulatory stakeholders.
- Organize and facilitate industry roundtables, regulatory forums, and advocacy workshops focused on regulatory challenges and policy development.
- Represent FIA at global and regional regulatory meetings to share industry perspectives on ingredient policies and harmonization efforts.
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies to promote regulatory coherence ingredients and functional ingredients across Asia.
- Contribute to working groups and technical committees within Codex Alimentarius to shape global regulatory frameworks for food ingredients and related topics.
- Provide technical guidance and facilitate data collection amongst members to facilitate advocacy and FIA response to CODEX Secretariat.
- Maintain and update FIA's regulatory databases, including Codex standards, national ingredient regulations, and global risk assessments.
- Prepare regulatory position papers, policy brief and advocacy materials to support industry engagement and influence regulatory decision-making.
- Manage regulatory research projects in collaboration with external partners and agencies.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science & Technology, Food Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Regulatory Affairs.
- 8-10 years of experience in regulatory affairs, preferably in food ingredients in FMCG companies.
- Strong understanding of Codex Alimentarius standards, national food regulatory frameworks in Asia, and global ingredient approval processes.
- Proven expertise in providing regulatory feedback to public consultation, submission of regulatory changes proposal especially relating to ingredients approval to national food safety authorities.
- Experience engaging with regulatory agencies such as FDA, EFSA, ASEAN Food Safety bodies, and national food authorities.
- Strong knowledge of risk assessments for ingredients, exposure evaluations, and toxicological data interpretation.
- Ability to conduct regulatory research and provide recommendations to senior regulatory affairs executives in food and beverage companies.
- Regulatory Strategist: Ability to anticipate regulatory changes and proactively develop strategies for compliance and advocacy.
- Technical Communicator: Strong analytical and communication skills to translate complex regulations into industry-friendly insights.
- Stakeholder Relationship Builder: Proven ability to engage with government officials, industry associations, and scientific bodies.
- Critical Thinker: Quickly responds to regulatory challenges across different markets and product categories.
- Global Perspective: Experience working across diverse regulatory environments in Asia, with a strong understanding of international food trade policies.
- Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with senior leaders from multinational ingredient and food companies.
- Language Proficiency: Strong English communication skills (both written and spoken); fluency in an additional Asian language is highly desirable.
- Mobility: Flexibility to travel and work offsite as required.
