Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support to our stakeholders. The role involves advising on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters, particularly in the payments industry, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, and ensuring compliance with evolving laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong legal background, excellent contract negotiation skills, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide primary legal support and advice to the stakeholders on a wide variety of legal and regulatory matters, including conducting legal research and advising on legal and regulatory developments in relation to payments industry.
  • Draft, review and revise legal contracts including product agreements, sales agreements and partnership agreements, and other legal and/or commercial or corporate documents.
  • Create or enhance standardized agreements for products and services.
  • Monitor and analyze relevant laws and regulations, proposing necessary changes to internal policies and processes to mitigate risks and exposures.
  • Able to identify and comprehend all issues in contracts being negotiated and comprehensively obtain/describe contractual feedback required from stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of new policies and procedures for the company.
  • Assist in administrative legal tasks by maintaining and upkeep documentation/record keeping protocols and process of the department, including handling applications and related processes for the company's intellectual property rights.
  • Providing and assisting in preparing periodic trainings on legal related matters to business units.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Must-Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law, Professional Degree or equivalent and called to the English Bar or Malaysian Bar.
  • Minimum 3-4 years of post-qualification experience, with a preference of 1-2 years as in house counsel.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating on any commercial contracts.
  • Demonstrable advocacy and oral and written communication skills, including the ability to influence different business functions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines and to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in English and Mandarin (spoken and written)

Nice-to-Have:

  • Relevant experience in payments industry is a plus.
  • Familiarity with contributing to legal programs (e.g. trainings, template contracts review).
  • Relevant knowledge of corporate M&A is a plus but not required.
