Job Summary:
Motivated by a love for students, create a learning environment to support the educational needs, abilities, and potential of each student.

General Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:

  1. Design learning plans based on the WIDA ELD Standards and WIDA Can Do descriptors, tailored to the language acquisition needs of learners in the EIP classroom.
  2. Collaborate with homeroom teachers to build classroom connections and provide support scaffolding or differentiating grade-level lessons.
  3. Deliver learning activities in the ELL classroom for diverse groups of learners (mixed group of grades 5-8) utilizing a variety of instructional strategies focused on reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  4. Provide push-in support to ELLs in other classes as needed.
  5. Administer the WIDA quarterly to monitor progress and growth of students enrolled in the EIP program.
  6. Design and use a variety of assessment types based on adopted standards and Can-Do descriptors to drive instruction and evaluate progress towards learning goals.
  7. Provide regular and timely feedback for students and facilitate self-reflection about their learning.
  8. Create and use a classroom management plan that is consistent with the school-wide behavior policies to maintain a physically and psychologically safe learning environment.
  9. Provide regular and timely feedback for parents about their students' academic and social/emotional learning progress, including ways in which they can extend and support learning at home.
  10. Regularly communicate with parents regarding learning goals for each unit of study.
  11. Collaborate with appropriate school personnel in meeting the social/emotional and behavioral needs of the students.
  12. Participate in team (Division/Department/Grade Level) and schoolwide meetings, PLCS, events, and initiatives.
  13. Seek prescribed, collaborative, and personal professional learning opportunities inside and outside the school.
  14. Co-lead at least one major school event each year.
  15. Contribute to school improvement by participating in yearly school improvement initiatives based on the school's action plan.
  16. Contribute to school improvement by developing curriculum maps for the assigned grade level and/or subject area based on the school curriculum review cycle.
  17. Seek opportunities to contribute to professional development in the ASEAN region (e.g., present, host, coordinate, facilitate, etc.).
  18. Lead an after-school activity for at least 1 quarter (Elementary teachers lead for 2 quarters each year).
  19. Lead a club for at least one semester each year (applies only to Middle School and High School teachers).
  20. Intentionally build relationships with students to support their holistic growth and development.
  21. Complete any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Basic Teacher Expectations:
These are non-negotiables required of teachers for the school and classroom to operate effectively. All teachers at OIS are expected to: act in accordance with the school's mission and values; comply with all policies and procedures; plan and prepare properly for instruction (including submitting lesson plans and designing curriculum); maintain a learning environment that encourages learning; uphold professional standards of appearance, punctuality, courtesy, and discretion; carry out all co-curricular responsibilities, including leading programs and events, assigned supervision duties (lunch, playground, etc.); and maintain professional credentials and/or certification, including applicable educator licensure, Google Certified Educator Level 1 (training provided), and Apple Teacher (training provided).
