SmartRetail has established an Engagement Out-of-home (EOOH) Advertising technology and facial recognition data platform with operations in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan. As a consumer engagement Software as a Solution (SaaS) platform, we digitally upgrade retail journeys (convenience stores, retail shops, petrol stations, vending machines, kiosks etc.) and allow consumers to complete valuable advertising actions for immediate incentives, creating a win-win-win ecosystem between advertisers, retailers and consumers.

YOUR ROLE
  • Refactor & Scale Critical Systems: Replace legacy APIs with robust, scalable solutions for our CV platform. Redesign monolithic components into modular services.
  • Optimize Performance: Tackle API latency and data platform bottlenecks (e.g., database sharding, caching strategies, async processing).
  • Architect AWS Infrastructure: Leverage EC2 and Lambda to build fault-tolerant, cost-effective systems. Implement auto-scaling and monitoring.
  • Mentor Developers: Guide our team of backend engineers across multiple product teams on best practices (Django, AWS, distributed systems).
  • Collaborate on CV Solutions: Partner with product teams to design APIs and data pipelines for computer vision workflows.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • 7+ years in backend development
  • 3+ years with AWS (EC2, Lambda)
  • Python/Django or very similar tech stack
  • AWS Mastery: Deep hands-on experience with EC2 (auto-scaling, load balancing) and Lambda. Bonus: ECS, S3, RDS/DynamoDB.
  • Python/Django Expertise: Proven ability to build and scale Django REST APIs (or similar technology). Experience decomposing monoliths into microservices.
  • Scalability Chops: Successfully improved API latency and scaled data platforms (e.g., Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL tuning).
  • Architecture & Communication: Strong track record designing systems for high-traffic environments. Ability to simplify technical decisions for stakeholders.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Experience working with frontend teams (React) and mentoring developers without direct management.
NICE TO HAVE
  • Experience with computer vision/data-intensive platforms (e.g., image processing pipelines).
  • Familiarity with serverless frameworks (AWS SAM, Serverless Framework).
  • Background in DevOps tools (Docker, Terraform, GitHub Actions).
