The purpose of this role is to assist the Specialty underwriting team in supporting business development and growth initiatives. This position focuses on learning the fundamentals of underwriting practices, cultivating relationships with clients, and contributing to the profitability of the designated portfolio.

Your new role:

• Assist in reviewing, evaluating, and pricing business by supporting underwriting decisions and adhering to regulatory standards.
• Help underwrite new and existing policies while ensuring compliance with organizational standards and guidelines.
• Support the identification and minimization of risks through thorough due diligence and escalation of issues when necessary.
• Collaborate with senior underwriters to learn and apply best practices in underwriting and pricing strategies.
• Maintain awareness of legal and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance in all underwriting activities.
• Contribute to recording and measurement of insurance risks.
• Maintain relationships with producers and customers.
• Participate in special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned, contributing to overall team objectives.

About you:

• Degree or equivalent qualification preferable

• 7+ years working experience with substantial experience gained within the insurance industry

• Use of risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models

• Established customer/broker relationships

• Extensive knowledge of relevant market conditions for specific class/portfolio

• Good knowledge of relevant QBE underwriting systems

• Thorough understanding of class specific underwriting and reinsurance knowledge

• Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages

• Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements

• Strong knowledge of QBE underwriting process and procedures
