As a Project Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, monitoring, and optimizing project schedules, resource plans, and timelines to ensure the successful execution of power, energy, or industrial projects. You will have expertise in Feasibility Studies, Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), and project execution phases, with a focus on delivering accurate schedules, progress reports, and risk-mitigation strategies. You will produce/review planning deliverables such as Gantt charts, critical path analyses, resource allocation plans, and earned value management (EVM) reports. Your role includes coordinating with cross-functional teams, aligning schedules with budgets, and ensuring compliance with project objectives.

Job Description

  • Lead project planning activities, including schedule development, baseline establishment, and progress tracking using tools like Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar software.
  • Design and maintain integrated project schedules for combined cycle power plants, gas turbines, balance of plant (BOP) systems, or related energy projects.
  • Develop Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), milestone plans, and resource-loaded schedules aligned with project scope and deliverables.
  • Perform critical path analysis, identify schedule risks/bottlenecks, and propose mitigation strategies to ensure on-time project completion.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to forecast manpower, equipment, and material requirements.
  • Monitor project progress against baselines, analyze variances, and prepare weekly/monthly progress reports, dashboards, and executive summaries.
  • Support budget alignment by linking schedules to cost estimates and tracking financial performance metrics.
  • Participate in risk assessment workshops (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP) to integrate planning contingencies and address delays.
  • Review vendor and contractor schedules, ensuring alignment with overall project timelines and contractual obligations.
  • Update and communicate schedule changes through Baseline Change Requests (BCRs) and maintain version control of planning documents.
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and project managers to address schedule-related queries and align expectations.
  • Conduct schedule audits and implement corrective actions to recover delays or optimize resource utilization.
  • Prepare What-If Scenarios and schedule simulations to evaluate impacts of scope changes or disruptions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., PMI, AACE) and company planning procedures.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Job Specification

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, PMI-SP, Primavera P6 Certification) are advantageous.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in project planning/scheduling within the power, energy, oil & gas, or construction sectors.
  • Proven expertise in detailed scheduling for combined cycle power plants, gas turbine projects, or industrial facilities.
  • Proficiency in project planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, SAP) and advanced skills in Excel, Power BI, or data analytics tools.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., Critical Path Method, Earned Value Management).
  • Familiarity with risk management frameworks and tools for schedule contingency planning.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, procurement timelines, and construction sequences.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to resolve scheduling conflicts.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and deliver results within tight deadlines.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel or relocate to project sites (local/overseas) as required.
