Job Summary:

As a houseparent, you will be responsible for providing a nurturing and supportive environment for residents within a boarding school. You will serve as a positive role model, mentor, and caregiver to boarders, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and oversee the daily activities of residents, including meals, chores, homework, and recreational activities.
  • Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere within the residence, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to residents, helping them navigate challenges and develop life skills.
  • Enforce rules and boundaries in a fair and consistent manner, promoting a safe and respectful living environment.
  • Communicate regularly with residents, families, and other staff members to address concerns, share updates, and coordinate care.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to boarders' progress, behavior, and medical needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings and professional development activities to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with adolescents, or young adults in school boarding settings is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals and families.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and handle crisis situations calmly and effectively.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record may be required.

Working Conditions:
Houseparents typically live on-site within the boarding facility provided by the employer. This position may involve evening, weekend, and holiday shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage for borders. The work environment can be emotionally demanding at times, requiring patience, resilience, and self-care practices.
