**Purpose of Activity/Assignment**:
UNICEF Malaysia is looking for a qualified consultant who will work under the supervision of the Programme Specialist (Climate & Environment) to support UNICEF Malaysia’s Climate & Environment programme, which focuses on strengthening the capacity of government, young people and private sector partners to develop and accelerate the implementation of child-centred, climate, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and actions.

The consultant will support UNICEF Malaysia’s work on disaster risk reduction and resilience, to integrate child-centred Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) into programmes with the government and implementing partners. In particular, h/she will support the provision of technical guidance on Child-Centred DRR, support partnerships and programmes with key government counterparts and partners from academia, civil society & youth coalitions, and assist to build the capacity of UNICEF’s partners on child-centred DRR.

At the global level, UNICEF has integrated DRR into the Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action (CCC). UNICEF recognizes its crucial responsibility to integrate DRR across its work. At the national level, UNICEF Malaysia is working on empowering all children and young people, particularly the most vulnerable, by:

- Ensuring that child-critical services are more inclusive, and resilient to and prepared for disasters;
- Engaging children and young people through education, preparedness and resilience programmes;
- Building capacities of national and local partners to prepare and protect children from disasters and climate impacts; and
- Maximising partnerships that strengthen disaster risk reduction and resilience
- building efforts and impact.

**How can you make a difference?**
- 1. Lead the development and roll-out of the DRR in Schools programme, a partnership between UNICEF Malaysia and the Ministry of Education:

- Preparation and finalisation of the Concept Note for the programme
- Technical advice to programme inception and roll-out
- Technical inputs and review of educational modules and activity packs for students and teachers
- Coordination of inputs and implementation among key partners in the programme

2. Supporting the engagement, programming and implementation of the Youth and Young Professionals Empowerment: Implementing SETI for Disaster Resilience programme, a partnership between U-Inspire and UNICEF Malaysia to provide a space to empower Youth and Young Professionals at the intersection of Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation (SETI) to build collective resilience, reimagining a climate-safe future for every young people, towards disaster resilience at the local, national and regional levels:

- Technical input to programme implementation
- Technical guidance on child-centred DRR
- 3. Work together with counterparts on the design and delivery of initiatives under of the Women and Child-Centred Community-Based Disaster Risk Management programme, a collaborative initiative between UNICEF, the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Disaster Preparedness & Prevention Centre (DPPC)
- Preparation and finalisation of concept note
- Support towards programme implementation
- 4. Support with the implementation of hazard mapping initiatives under the MyUNICEF Impact Challenge in providing technical guidance on DRR and facilitation of partnerships with key government ministries or agencies
- 5. Coordination and delivery of capacity building sessions on CCDRR and DRR in the education sector for UNICEF’s partners, government counterparts and beneficiaries
- 6. Produce guidance notes, information briefs and materials, and communications material (e.g. blog posts, written articles, reflection pieces, and stories) on DRR
