Main purpose

In charge of the boarding house, the HouseMaster/Mistress is responsible for the smooth running of the boarding house, the supervision and guidance of the boarding helpers, and, above all, the safeguarding and welfare of the student boarders.

Roles and responsibilities

1. Academic duties
- Maintain an orderly learning environment with a good level of discipline.
- Keep an active interest in the academic progress of student boarders in the house and interceding on their behalf as required, for instance, by attending parents’ consultations etc.
- Liaise closely with members of teaching staff across the school, as well as auxiliary staff to ensure the smooth running of the boarding house.
- Feedback to parents formally, as part of the school’s reporting procedure

2. Administration
- Manage the boarding helpers to ensure the smooth running of the boarding house
- Hold regular meetings/huddles and ensure clear communications to student boarders, their parents or guardians being informed.
- Draw up duty rosters throughout the term and ensure that duties are divided up equitably and the boarding house is properly supervised.
- Advise on the running of weekend activities, and leading on weekend duties, where require.
- Supervise off-site trips for the student boarders and complete the administrative tasks for such trips as required.
- Manage the day-to-day finances of the boarding house and responsible for its annual budgeting, develop well-costed plans for future expenditure.
- Ensure the student boarders’ paperwork is up-to-date and reflects the current truth, particularly in relation to arrangements for guardians and local carers.

3. Safeguarding, Health and Safety
- Ensure Students Safeguarding, Health and Safety as top priority all the time and to comply with the School Child Safeguarding Policy.
- Keep the Facilities Management team informed of any health and/or safety maintenance issues that may arise during the term.
- Ensure that safe travel and hosting arrangements are in place for weekends and holidays, including the preparation of travel documents, passports, and visas.
- Maintain good order and discipline among the students and safeguard their health and safety when they are authorized to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere.

4. Pastoral Oversight
- Maintain high standards of personal conduct in the boarding house, in accordance with school policies.
- Foster a homely, purposeful and safe atmosphere within the boarding house.
- Induct new student boarders and liaise coldly with their parents before, during and after their arrival at the school
- Be proactive in seeking to forge excellent personal relationships with the students, their parents and/or guardians.

5. Other Responsibilities
- Be a resident in the accommodation provided in the boarding house during term time.
- Follow all school policies and procedures as shared and in the various staff handbooks.

**Requirements**:

- Hold a Degree, and a qualified teacher
- Have at least 5 years of experience in teaching
- Enjoy community life, and not resent its intrusion on privacy, nor its occasional calls for hard work at unsociable hours for no additional pecuniary advantage
- Have a solution-focused, positive and stay resilient
- Enjoy the company of young teens/teenagers for its own sake and have an easy rapport with them
- Pass all the background screening and checks.

**Salary**: RM5,000.00 - RM7,000.00 per month

**Experience**:

- Housemaster/Houseparent: 3 years (preferred)
