Key Responsibilities:

- The Database Administrator I role usually supports one or more databases of low to medium complexity (complexity defined by database size, technology used, and system feeds and interfaces) with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity, and accessibility of the data. They work on one or more projects as a team member.
- Individuals within the Database Administration job family design, install, maintain and upgrade the enterprise’s databases (development, testing, and production). They provide technical expertise in the use of database technology and are accountable for the overall performance of the enterprise’s database environment. Database Administrators work closely with business and system analysts and solution developers to define and resolve information flow and content issues—helping to transform business requirements into environment specific databases.

These professionals have a solid working knowledge of database administration methodologies and techniques, and a good understanding of logical and physical database design principles. They work well in a team environment and exhibit flexibility when addressing daily shifting work priorities.
- Major Responsibilities:

- Database Administration
- Maintains development, production, and multiple testing environments.
- Performs upgrades of databases, adding new structures or elements.
- Provides use of data access tools and techniques to enable information access by business users.
- Assists in the installation, configuration, and maintaining of the database management systems software.
- Implements database backup and recovery procedures.
- Database Security
- Controls privileges and permissions to database users.
- Assures that appropriate information security is applied in all tasks
- Database Support
- Provides production support / database access 24 hrs x 7 days a week (on a standby basis)
- Conducts Level 2 supports.
- Troubleshoots databases accessibility, availability or operability problems.
- Determines the appropriate course of actions for fixing problems, identifies and mitigates risks, and implements solutions.
- Escalates/ communicates issues when necessary.
- Service Level Agreement
- Is aware of service level agreement levels.
- Takes steps to meet or exceed requirements.
- Policies, Standards, and Procedure
- Adheres to policies, procedures and standards.
- Project Work/Planning
- Plans and organizes database activities regarding reliability, performance monitoring and tuning, security, backup and disaster recovery.
- Business Requirements
- Works with analysts to understand business needs.
- Design/Develop
- Translates logical data models into physical database designs.
- Develops physical databases.
- Assists in the establishment of database system flows.
- Develops and maintains enterprise data documentation and metadata models.
- Codes, edits, and installs stored procedures and functions for accessing, maintaining, and populating databases.
- Testing
- Participates in projects that require testing and produces metrics and samples for further analysis.
- Performance Management
- Monitors utilization for capacity planning.
- Monitors, analyzes database performance and calibrates DBMS parameters so that the database is tuned for optimal performance.
- Requirements Include:

- At least 1-3 years of Microsoft SQL Server (v. 2012 and above) database administration experience.
- Experience in stakeholder management.
- Basic knowledge of database management systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in programming/systems, computer science, information systems, or mathematics, specialized training, certification or equivalent work experience.
- Good communications skills.
