Location: Miri Sarawak

The Laboratory Technician is responsible to assist Technical Officers and Academic staff in managing the laboratories in terms of preparing equipment and consumables required for experiments. The incumbent is also responsible to maintain and ensure efficient handling of equipment, performs stock take and ensure stocks are sufficient and enforce safety requirement to staff and students in the labs at all time.

**Scope of Responsibilities**:

- Liaise with undergraduate, postgraduate students and academic staff on their needs for practical work including demonstrations and instructing students on use/care of equipment during experiments and enforce safety measures for all laboratory users.
- Ensure the security of laboratory resources including maintaining inventory and records keeping and an adequate level of stock control for both consumable and non-consumable.
- Develop lab equipment maintenance procedures including servicing and cleaning general equipment.
- Prepare reports and updates as required by the Lab Manager including assisting with budget preparation.

**Selection Criteria**:

- A diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Possess basic welding, machining (Lathe/Milling/Drilling/Grinding etc.,) and casting skills.
- Familiar with CNC, tensile and compression testing.
- At least one (1) year of practical experience in a laboratory.
- Ability to interact and communicate (oral and written) effectively and professionally with staff and students at all levels.
- Ability to exercise a degree of analytical thinking and in-depth investigation of processes.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently in some activities and as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work at odd hours such as weekends and public holidays to meet the teaching and research demand and to work under pressure.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
