Sub Editor

**Job Overall Purpose**:

- Sub Editors check the written text of news stories, columns and letters before they are published on the Malaysiakini website.
- They are responsible for ensuring the correct grammar, spelling, house style and tone of the published work.
- Sub Editors also ensure that the copies are factually correct and suit the target market.
- The job is demanding and requires constant attention to detail in a fast-paced working environment.
- Sub-editors are required and must be able to work on different shifts - starting from 6am to 12 midnight.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Editing copies that are written by journalists or features writers, to remove spelling mistakes and grammatical or factual errors.
- Rewriting materials so that they flow or read better.
- Making sure the copies adhere to Malaysiakini house style.
- Writing/editing headlines that capture the essence of the story or are eye-catching to the readers.
- Writing standfirsts or story summaries underneath the headline.
- Liaising with reporters, journalists and editors to verify information and story details.
- Checking facts and stories to ensure they are accurate and do not break any copyright or libel laws.
- Gathering and preparing routine information.
- Keeping up to date with sector issues, e.g. by reading related publications.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: RM5,000.00 - RM5,600.00 per month
