Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects, taking into account labor, materials, equipment, and other expenses. Cost Planning: Develop and maintain budgets and cost plans for construction projects, considering various factors such as project scope, timeline, and client requirements. Tendering and Procurement: Assist in the tendering process by preparing bills of quantities, evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts with suppliers and subcontractors. Measurement and Valuation: Measure and quantify construction work completed at different stages of the project to assess progress and determine payments to contractors. Cost Control: Monitor project costs and expenditures, identifying any deviations from the budget and implementing corrective measures to control costs effectively. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and opportunities associated with the project, analyze their impact on costs, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and maximize project value. Value Engineering: Collaborate with the design team and contractors to identify cost-saving measures without compromising the quality and functionality of the project. Final Accounts: Prepare and negotiate final accounts with contractors, ensuring all work is properly valued and accounted for. Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project to address concerns, provide progress updates, and ensure client satisfaction. In addition to these core responsibilities, quantity surveyors may also be involved in feasibility studies, project planning, dispute resolution, and providing expert advice on cost management and procurement strategies. They typically work closely with architects, engineers, project managers, and other professionals involved in the construction industry to deliver projects on time and within budget.
