Job Overview

Zurich is a leading insurance company seeking a highly skilled and experienced legal professional to join our team as Senior Corporate Counsel. In this role, you will play a critical part in identifying, managing and mitigating legal risks to enable the business to achieve strategic and commercial goals.

Main Responsibilities
  • Promote and implement the organizational values, ethics and responsible business conduct.
  • Contribute to the support of the Company Secretariat, including organization of board and committee meetings, statutory meetings, board reviews and renewals, training and support of Directors.
  • Address potential conflicts between management and legal entity views by aligning or actively identifying and managing divergence.
Key AccountabilitiesCorporate Legal – Regulatory, Governance and Company Secretariat
  • Oversee relationships and interactions with insurance regulators, supporting management in developing open and transparent relationships that align with organizational values and comply with the spirit and letter of the law.
  • Guide and advise on developing and maintaining an adequate and transparent corporate governance system of principles, policies, procedures and responsibilities to ensure alignment with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and report on legal trends and laws, anticipating new requirements and their impact on the organization, ensuring alignment with Compliance to prevent activity overlaps.
Corporate Legal – Corporate Transactions
  • Direct the strategy for structuring, negotiating and resolving local legal issues of corporate transactions to protect Zurich's assets while enabling transactions.
  • Collaborate with the Mergers & Acquisitions legal team to provide legal advice addressing and managing local legal issues and regulatory requirements in relation to proposed corporate transactions.
  • Support the business in relation to insurance laws and regulation along the value chain, from licensing to re-insurance, facilitating achievement of strategic and commercial goals.
Performance Management
  • Model behaviors demonstrating commitment to corporate values.
  • Provide input into performance management discussions of project team members.
  • Coach and offer technical advice and counsel within and outside operating units.
  • Offer guidance and support for team members.
  • Take action to manage own personal development and encourage others to do the same.
Requirements
  • Required: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 5 or more years of experience in a related field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree (or equivalent) and 5 or more years of experience in a related field.
  • Additional Education / Experience: Attorney-at-Law or qualified solicitor or barrister, with an LL.M or adequate qualification.
