About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research and Development Expert to join our team at Sika. The successful candidate will have a strong background in cementitious materials and concrete technology, with a proven track record of developing innovative products and processes.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in research and development, with a focus on cementitious materials, concrete technology, or related areas. They will be able to demonstrate strong technical expertise in materials characterization, formulation development, and process optimization.

In addition to their technical skills, the successful candidate will be able to work effectively as part of a team, communicate complex ideas clearly, and possess excellent problem-solving skills. They will also be familiar with regulatory requirements and quality standards applicable to the industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Developing new products or refining existing ones by enhancing their performance, increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and ensuring high quality.
  • Testing and evaluating raw materials, formulating and conducting laboratory testing, analyzing lab data, and drawing actionable conclusions.
  • Field evaluations and production trials associated with approved development projects and new products, strictly following PCP procedures in SIP.
  • Supervising the setting of specifications for new products, including sources and data for raw materials, manufacturing procedures, and finished product testing (standard and performance testing), packaging requirements, and Safety & Environment.
  • Incorporating sustainability principles into the research and development of cementitious products, exploring alternative materials, additives, and manufacturing processes that reduce environmental impact while maintaining product performance and quality.
  • Identifying opportunities to optimize production processes and formulations to enhance efficiency and reduce resource consumption, implementing measures such as process automation, equipment upgrades, and waste minimization initiatives to streamline operations and lower production costs.
  • Exploring alternative raw materials and additives that offer cost advantages without compromising product performance or quality, conducting thorough cost-benefit analyses to assess the economic feasibility of using different materials and selecting options that provide the greatest cost savings.
  • Certifying Raw Material Specifications (RMS) for any new raw material, updating RMS for any approved new source of an existing raw material, and distributing updated RMS to all concerned parties.
  • Data collection and analysis, collecting relevant data from various sources, including experimental trials, market research, and financial reports, to support decision-making and performance evaluation, analyzing data using statistical methods, modeling techniques, and software tools to extract meaningful insights and trends.
  • Bills of Material management, updating Bills of Material for any change to raw materials or formulations relating to manufactured products.
  • Quality assurance, implementing rigorous quality control measures to ensure the reliability, durability, and performance of cementitious products developed by the R&D team.
  • Technology assessment, staying abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the field of cementitious materials, evaluating and assessing new technologies for potential integration into product development efforts.
  • Cross-functional collaboration, collaborating closely with other departments, including manufacturing, sales, and marketing, to ensure seamless integration of R&D efforts with business operations and commercialization strategies.
  • Regulatory compliance, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and environmental guidelines in the development and testing of cementitious products.
  • Continuous improvement, implementing a culture of continuous improvement within the R&D department, where sustainability is integrated into the innovation process, encouraging experimentation, knowledge sharing, and interdisciplinary collaboration to drive meaningful progress towards sustainability objectives, operational excellence, and innovative solutions.
