Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced tax professional to join our team in Hydra X's KPMG Delivery Network (KDN) in Malaysia in a Team Lead position in our Direct Tax team.

The role will be responsible for managing team delivery work, deliverables quality & timelines, with a focus on upholding quality standards. The person will be expected to contribute to strategic projects, and help enable a continuous improvement culture.

This role will be tasked with contributing to transformation initiatives, continuous improvement enabled by technology, and other growth/efficiency initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a cluster group of professionals (expected 4-9 people) delivering compliance services for specific countries.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operative management of the people and operation-related activities within the cluster group.
  • Manage an assigned review portfolio of clients to deliver returns with quality and timeliness.
  • Propose and monitor the team's allocation of work and performance management to deliver accurate and effective indirect tax compliance services.
  • Manage the training needs for team members for a specific Cluster of countries to apply a training framework of training needs with the latest development in taxation and its issues to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Allocate buddies to team members.
  • Able to work independently to manage completion of work by Cluster Group.
  • Review assigned tax submissions and tax correspondences drafted/prepared by team members.
  • Monitor all tasks performed by team members in ensuring the tasks are performed in accordance with instructions and timelines.
  • Manage the performance of the team through regular communication, feedback, performance review, and coaching.
  • Approval of timesheets, holidays, and work-from-home requests.
  • Provide feedback to Cluster & Centre management about cluster group issues and resourcing needs.
  • Participate in interviews for cluster recruitment and provide input on hiring decisions.
  • Identify and communicate key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of clients and projects and lead teams to deliver tax compliance services effectively.
  • Coach and develop team members to achieve technical competencies and efficient performance.
  • Support transformation initiatives to enable technology adoption across new and existing processes.
  • Lead and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement & optimize process effectiveness.
  • Lead meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other ad-hoc requests required to manage client service.

Requirements:

  • A recognized university degree or a professional qualification in Accounting / Finance / Computer Science / Data Sciences / Economics or a member of a recognized professional accounting/taxation body.
  • Candidate with direct tax technical experience at a proficient level.
  • Candidate with minimum 4+ years of experience.
  • Candidate with audit and/or financial statement experience will have an advantage.
  • Relevant data/business analyst experience valued.
  • Must be a team player to work in a robust team of multi-disciplinary professionals.
  • Must be accountable, analytical, self-motivated, organized, able to multi-task and work independently.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people.
  • Curiosity and passion to find solutions to client needs.
  • Highly goal-oriented, assertive, and a hands-on problem solver.
