JOB TITLE: Senior Inspector – Quality (Painting/Coating & Insulation)

Main Responsibilities:

Painting/Coating:

  • Evaluate weather conditions according to applicable standards/specifications while considering environmental, time, and economic constraints.
  • Ensure manufacturer instructions and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are followed when handling and storing Painting/Coating materials and abrasives on site.
  • Verify data sheets are available, material traceability is maintained, and correct materials are used.
  • Monitor contractors' performance, ensuring applicators are competent and certified as required, and equipment is in serviceable condition.
  • Ensure inspection and test equipment is operational, within calibration period, and personnel are knowledgeable in its use.
  • Protect weld areas before blasting where pressure testing has not been completed.
  • Guard flange serrations, instruments, etc., from damage during blasting.
  • Confirm surface preparation meets requirements, blast profile, and cleanliness.
  • Continuously monitor surface cleanliness and record surface profiles (at least three times during the coating process: before surface preparation starts, after preparation, before coating begins, and between coatings in multi-coat systems).
  • Monitor wet film thickness during application and check application techniques.
  • Check dry film thickness and recoating intervals.
  • Replace any identification marks or tags removed or overcoated.
  • After full curing, conduct visual inspections and specified non-destructive and/or destructive tests.
  • Conduct visual inspections after each coat (verify correct shade, degree of gloss, evenness, and ensure it's free from tackiness after drying/curing and free from cracks, holidays, runs, sags, wrinkles, patches, brush or roller marks, or other defects that may be detrimental to coating quality).
  • Witness destructive tests as needed in accordance with project specifications (Holiday detection, Adhesion testing, Impact resistance testing, Cathodic dis-bondment testing, Thickness of coating on steel body, Thickness of coating on weld bead, Peel test, Overall degree of adhesion, voids exposing bare metal).
  • Examine work for damages and defects upon completion of each painting/coating stage.

Insulation:

  • Inspect insulation materials to verify manufacturer, product type, thickness, and batch number.
  • Follow manufacturer instructions and MSDS when handling and storing insulation materials on site.
  • Ensure insulation materials are stored off the floor under shade in secure and well-ventilated areas away from moisture and water, which may weaken insulation strength.
  • Store insulation materials separately by type, width, and thickness.
  • Prevent combining different manufacturers' products and store them separately.
  • Verify materials are used in the same order they were delivered, following first-in, first-out consumption.
  • Complete System/Subsystem testing, reinstatement, and painting before starting insulation.
  • Insulate pipe work and equipment as per line lists and isometrics.
  • Meet equipment insulation requirements as per equipment data sheets.
  • Release heat-traced piping/equipment prior to insulation application.
  • Protect adjacent components, paved areas, etc., from dripping compounds and sealants during insulation.
  • Ensure clean, dry, and grease-free surfaces on piping and equipment.
  • Austenitic stainless-steel vessels, equipment, and piping need special attention to prevent contamination due to corrosive products like chlorine, chlorides, and wrapping with aluminum or stainless-steel foil as per project specification.
  • Inspect insulation/cladding at indicated stages as shown on Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • NACE or FROSIO Level II Coating Inspector certification is mandatory.
  • Holding CSWP 3.1/AWS Certified Welding Inspector and ISO 9712 NDE Level II Certification is advantageous.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience as QC Inspector - Painting/Coating & Insulation.
  • Should have 3-5 years of experience in Oil & Gas platform or Wind Energy platform fabrication inspection activities.
  • Multi-discipline Inspector preferred (Coating & Welding Inspection).
