Underwriting Manager

**Job Summary**:

- Responsible for the underwriting function.
- Assist the Head of New Business in implementing the operational strategy in the areas of New Business Admin and Underwriting to support the company's goals.
- Responsible for controlling and monitoring subordinates to achieve the operational/ performance goals of the department.

**Job Description:
- Process underwriting and countersigning cases submitted according to the individual authority limit assigned and within the turnaround time.
- Work with the Head of New Business Underwriting to implement any strategies for manual underwriting policies in line with Takaful principles and good governance.
- Achieve operational/performance goals for the section.
- Assist the Head of New Business Underwriting in developing, tracking, and managing the performance of the service provider.
- Review new product requirements or new system requirements.
- Be involved in discussions with IT regarding system clarifications.
- Be involved in Project Working Group for any projects involving underwriting or new product development.
- Update Underwriters regarding new products and system updates.
- Review and approve new underwriting guides as proposed by juniors.
- Perform user acceptance testing as and when required.
- Manage complaint and appeal cases.
- Perform quality checks every month and handle audit inquiries.
- Monitor respective team performance.
- Attend offsite meetings with corporate clients as and when required.
- Coach, mentor subordinates, and promote positive vibes among the team.
- Train and cross-train within and outside the unit.

**Job Specification**:

- Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery/Science-related qualifications.
- Other professional qualifications are an advantage, i.e., FLMI, AMII, Takaful Basic Examination.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in underwriting, preferably a Doctor of Medicine with an underwriting background.
- Takaful/Insurance/other Financial Institution/Service Provider experience.
- Strong technical knowledge in Family Takaful/Life Insurance Underwriting.
- Good leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to drive and motivate staff.
- Results-driven.
- Good business acumen and a sense of urgency.
- People-oriented and customer-focused.
- Good team player.
- Good market and industry knowledge.
