Enggang (Pekan) Sdn Bhd operates a peat swamp forest conservation project in the state of Pahang, Malaysia. We are looking for a field officer who will focus on supporting the development and implementation of our forest conservation program including field activities, stakeholder engagement and awareness-raising activities, with a focus on hydrology management and fire prevention. This position be part of the Forest Protection team and will report to the Field Manager. This is a full-time position based in Pekan, Pahang.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Implementation of multi-year canal-blocking programme for the purpose of restoring the hydrology of the peat swamp forest.
a. To undertake ground surveys of proposed locations for the construction of canal blocks (or check dams) to support the planning and design of the programme.
b. To work with a hydrology modelling consultant to ensure canal blocks are optimally placed and constructed.
c. To liaise with local authorities as necessary to support the process of canal blocking.
d. To guide the process for canal blocking including meetings with local communities and landowners to secure support.
e. To arrange for logistics and procurement of materials for the construction work.
f. To supervise works of contractors to construct and repair canal blocks including fine-tuning of the site locations and block designs according to the hydrology model and local situation.
g. Preparing reports and maps on canal-blocking activities.

2. Organize regular site visits by team members for collection of data from piezometers, and inspection of canal blocks to identify maintenance needs.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, forest engineering or agricultural engineering.
- At least 2 years experience in the management of peatlands. Hands-on experience with drainage canals (construction or blocking of such) is preferred.
- Demonstrable experience engaging diverse stakeholders, in particular plantation companies and local communities.
- Self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Cost, time and safety conscious.
- An impeccable record of honesty and probity.
- Good written/spoken Malay/English.
